Thumbs up The Blue Fischer Lovebird

These beautiful little chicks grew up to become these gorgeous blue and dark blue Fischer Lovebirds

They look like Hybrids to me. The whiteface is indicitive of the peachface mutations but I could be wrong? Are they yours?

Even though the face may make it look like a hybrid that is what a blue fischer looks like.

Color mutations

While most of the Fischer's lovebirds are green in color there have been some bred mutations. The 'blue' mutation is predominant and indicates a lack of yellow pigment. Usually a 'blue' Fischer's lovebird will have a bright blue back, tail, and chest, a white neck, a pale grey head and a pale pink beak. This mutation was first bred by R. Horsham in South Africa in 1957, and two years later it was bred by Dr. F. Warford in San Francisco, California.

wow. No they are very pretty but I would easily mistake them for some kind of PF mutation.

Very nice fischeri! They actually look like very nice birds, in blue series the grey should follow down the neck just as it does in the green wildcolour bird. Great examples.

Even though the blue mutation in fischeri did originally come from personatus, they can't be classed as hybrids

The masked was the first eye ring species to develope mutations. Since the mutations were considered so beautiful and all of the eye rings are so closely related and very easily hybridize, they were hybridized very frequently. Because of this it is very hard to trace an eye ring lovebirds ancestory and be asured that it is a pure bred. It is almost impossible to tell if a mutation has developed in the species or came from a masked lovebird hybridizing in the past. For simplicity many people call them purebreds of which ever eye ring species they look most like. People who are informed about lovebirds know this. I have never heard anyone say that they can not be called hybrids though. There really is not a way to tell. Actually because of this there are said to be almost no pure bred Nyasa lovebirds in captivity anymore since they were hybridized with the more common, similar looking and cheaper Fischers.
