How loud are lovebirds?

Hii,

I've always liked lovebirds, they're soo cute. I was just wondering how loud they are? Some people i've talked to say that they're incredibly loud, is this true for everyone's here? I have a green cheeked conure and a parrotlet who only usually ever make noise in the mornings... Would a lovebird be very loud compared to the birds i have?

yeah :) They are kinda loud. I think for most people it is not the actual decibels but the pitch. They dont always make cute noises LOL (well the owners opinion on this may vary) LOL again. They screech. The love birds I have known were very screechy. But it is mostly during the morning and evening like most birds. Of course this a generalization and it varies. If you want a love bird then get it. :) It's not like a cockatoo or anything LOL I think if you like them that much you probably wont mind the noise very much. Here is a video. In real life this noise has a sort of piercing tone if you get what I mean.

I think it all depends on what one considers "loud." To me, their "chirp" is loud, high, and shrill in general. But then there are other times when their chirping is quiet or they make other noises. Their chirp isn't constant throughout the day, though. I used to have a cockatiel before and I feel my lovebirds are louder than a cockatiel but not louder than the sun conures I heard at someone's house.

I would definitely suggest going to a pet store a few times and just stand there and listen to them. You can also check out YouTube videos, but I think hearing it in person would be much better.

I've heard some people out there with LOUD birds say they can't own a lovebird because of their chirp, not because it's louder but it's because it's a different pitch (that some can't stand) like Aries said.

I love lovebirds too much so I deal with it. Hehehe.

I agree with Maya. My lovie grew up never even hearing another bird (I took her home at 2 wks old), so she kind of makes sounds different than, say, at my brother-in-law's house where there are many.

Before I got my gcc, Jack was fairly quiet most of the time, but compared to my gcc, who is almost silent, she is much louder.

Then I got a caique. Talk about LOUD! Now my lovie seems very quiet. lol

My brother-in-law has a sun, 8 lovies, 2 finches, and a cockatoo on the way.
Now, his house will be the loudest for miles around!

Anyway, I love the lovies chirps, but, like Maya said, some folks don't. If you know someone who has them, maybe go hang out over there for a bit.

They can be loud. :)

When I lived in my first apartment (ground suite) I could here my lovie halfway down the block! Interestingly, my neighbours could not hear him unless they were near my windows/door and said the sound never travelled to their suites - thank goodness!

Ha yeah i've always liked lovebirds, but my mom is always saying they would be too loud (same with cockateils?) I want to ask for another bird for my birthday, but i dont think they will consider it unless i have it all planneed out. I want my Uncles Amazon, but i dont think my parents want a big bird :(

The pet stores around here dont usually carry lovebirds... i'd have to look for a breeder/

Cockatiels are not very loud to me. At all. The males can be very chatty at times. But it is a background noise type stuff. And we are a very noise sensitive home. If you want a quiet tiel get a female. I have a male and I still dont think he is loud but the females are almost mute in my experience.

I think they make neat sounds too. They can get some pretty good volume on them, but I think they have a neat call...lol

Mine doesn't say a whole lost most of the time so far really....

AJ, my lovebird, is probably my noisiest bird. His call is rather shrill, but has a songbirdish quality to it. The part that might drive some people nuts is that he goes at it non-stop from sunrise to sunset. My family and I don't notice it anymore because we are used to it, but when guests come over, we frequenty get complaints!

AJ can battle with Rylee, my sun conure. If either of them are on your sholder and call, your ears will ring...
