New Baby is a boomerang!

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum and I thought I'd introduce myself and my new baby Peachface, Auto.

I got him on Thursday from Kelley at Tiny Tweets Aviary and he couldn't be sweeter. I absolutely love him! But, he's definitely a 'boomerang bird', he's completely attached to me already, spending every second he can nestled into the crook of my neck, nipping at my hair or girding his beak. Now, of course I don't have a problem with this at all, but I definitely want to start helping him gain confidence being away from people.

Does anyone have any advice?

He's also not quite sure what to make of toys in his cage - He's not afraid of them, but is hesitant to play with them, is there anything special I could do for him to get him adjusted to them?

Thanks everyone!

Also, here's a picture of him from last night, snuggled into my hoodie for a nap.

Oh, what a sweet baby! As for the toys, you can try playing with them. He may become interested simply because you're touching them. When he does go near or touch a toy, praise him. Be sure to give him alone time in his cage. Good luck!

Personally I'd keep him the way he is! He'll get more independent as he gets older anyway.

Congratulations on your new baby! As becca623 said I would playing with the toys. Since he seems so bonded to you he should follow your lead and play with the toys.

Welcome and congrats. I have a baby peace face as well, I think they just need some time to settle in.

Most lovies, especially young ones, can think a toy or something else that's new can hurt them, so they stay away from it for a while. New food, new toys, new cage, etc. can bother them a lot, so you have to give them time to get settled and to check it out. One toy at a time, and leave it where they can avoid it, if they figure it will do them damage. This is just a normal thing and is part of their growing up. And be very happy that your bird likes you so much that he wants to be with you. As they get more mature, they will start feeling hormones surging and will look for a mate. Then they will be more aggressive and more interested in other birds. If you don't have any, then play the radio or stereo with easy listening music as companionship when you aren't there. Rock will make it much more noisy -- and it will get louder as time goes on anyway. Enjoy your bird!

Thanks everyone!

Auto has started becoming much more independent over the past few days - It's been great! He's still not quite sure what to make of his toys yet, but he's started to play with my fingers and my keyboard and exploring my room a bit more.

His new favorite game is to shuffle through a "cave" I make with my hands (though half the time he ends up stopping and just cuddling under my palm).

I'm so in love!

He also makes a lovely hat.
