Lovebird & Conure??

OK so I've had my lovebird, Lola, since November. And on Monday, I'll be bringing home a jenday conure. How will they get along? Obviously they'll be housed in different cages, I just wanna make sure no one's gonna kill one another.

Thanks!

I personally would be very careful as a conure is much bigger and could cause serious harm to a lovebird. If you decide that you really want to do this then try the following. First, either way you should quarantine your new bird for about 30 days. Next if you want them to interact I would start by putting there cages next to each other. Do this for a while and see how they interact. If they seem to get along for a while you could try letting them be out together in an area where one can run away from the other if something happens.

Always watch different species together and, as mentioned above, the Jenday is much bigger than our little lovebird friends. Of course, lovebirds don't KNOW that and can be rather aggressive and territorial sometimes biting off more than they can chew and sustaining serious injury.
Take your time and let them get to know each other and monitor all outside cage activity....all the time... until such time, if it happens, that you KNOW they will co-exist.

They definitely won't be housed together. And my lovie is never out of his cage unless my boyfriend or myself is around. The same will apply for the conure. Do I need to quarantine the conure in another room from my lovie?

I recommend a longer Q... 90 days being my preference but 45 being a bare minimum. Some might see at as overkill but better safe than sorry!

Lovebirds generally are not aware of how eensy they are, which can prove to be problematic when you have a larger parrot in the home. I would exercise extreme caution if you allowing them out of the cage at the same time. Start with one out at a time while the other is caged and take it from there.

Best of luck :)
