If the eggs do not hatch then the mother will frequently eat the eggs to regain the calcium that she lost in laying them. I have never had a parent eat a baby, or even heard of it, but I guess that it is a possibility. I am sorry about this.

oh..that's sad.
Hence, why I wouldn't want my guys breeding. I think it can be quite a heartache when things go wrong...nature doesn't always make sense. I don't know what happened...are your lovies quite young? Maybe they just didn't know what to do...i do believe that can happen although missing babies/eating babies......that's just....awful.

Yea im just not sure what happened...maybe it was because it was their first clutch...im not sure but all i kno is that those babies are gone and nowhere to be found so i just came to my own conclusion that they ate them...

Sorry that happened to you. I've heard that sometimes with the first clutch there are issue. I have my fingers crossed as my red rumps are sitting on eggs right now. Said a quick prayer for you.

I am so sorry to hear about that happening...that is very scary. I am going to call the breeder where my lovies came from and ask her that question. I also have other questions for her and she's been doing dealing with birds for a very long time. I'll let you know what I find out.

Yes, Lovies and parrotlets will sometimes eat babies. Esp new parents. I have had it happen. As for the why part? Inexpirienced parents is usually what it amounts to. They just didnt know how to handle the situation and usually get it right the next time. If they dont I would separate the pair. Its not uncommon.
