odd behavior?

i am a newbie of 5 months with birds. i now have a lovebird and an amazon both in their twos. they are both rescues. i was lucky to get young birds.

i am noticing that my lovebird will take strips of paper and other stuff and try and stick it between her feathers as if it is a feather she is trying to replace.

today i happend to see that she had gotten a piece of rug and had stuck it between her feathers?

is she trying to tell me something or is something amis??????

i find it kind a cute.

she is such a nut.

also i am having a hard time varying her diet. everynow an than she will eat veggies but for the most part it is pellets.

i will mix a small amount of quality seed mixture at the rate of 8020 in with the pellets and i give her millet as well.

what other things can i do to assure she gets the best diet available. i so want her to have the best home possible. all i need now is her cooperation!

i love that little bird to death even if she bites like a shark. a shark named lola.

I believe putting the shredded paper between the wings in some sort of nesting behaviour, or what they do when they are practicing their nesting skills! Im sure someone else will be able to be more precise about this, but im pretty sure im on the right lines here and i doubt its anything to worry about.

yup...nesting.
I have often seen BIG PIECES of sticks and coconut fiber and paper sticking out of my birds' feathers. Looks like a peacock. Harmless...unless she starts to do a lot of egg laying like mine did. Now I have to make sure they don't get their shredding toys and if they are out and find a shredder and start with the nesting stuff, they go back in their cage. tough love....

thanks all.

i put a 10 x 6 x4 macaroni box in her cage and removed the celophane on the site hole near the bottom of the side.

at first she wouldnt go into that box. now she loves it. she is so strong she tosses that box around like nobodys biz. that is ONE strong bird cause that box is prob 10 times her size or more.

if she is outside the box and i put my finger near the smaller hole on the side she rushes in an gives me a nip.
it is unbelievable to see her move like a road runner.

that is another surprise i got with lola. her speed. she could run rings around fred my amazon.

when she eats millet she sits on the bottom of the cage an 'zooms' all over the place.

i am sure this is not unusual....

looking back at my posts i almost talk like the proud papa of a two year old boy and girl. lmao.

would anybody care to see my wallet photo's or how about i bring out their 8m vacation flick.
