Is throwing up bad?
Hi all,
My year-old love bird has been throwing up the past 3 days on the edge of a perch we have in its cage. Every day the pile of thrown up seeds has been getting bigger. He usually eats, drinks water, and then proceeds to throw up in the same place. For the time being I have been trying to clean his cage as often as possible. When I allow him ouside, he doesn't throw up at all, which I found unusual. He looks healthy and acts the same except when he's in his cage. Half a year ago he started to throw up as well, but we bought a different brand of seeds, and he got better within a few days. Yesterday I tried giving him new bird food, but that didn't help. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance. |

I suppose you wouldn't consider taking the bird to a Vet? There could be any number of things wrong.

Any update on this? I haven't been on this forum in a while and now I'm sorry I missed this thread!!
Well, unfortunately lovebirds don't really "throw up," as I've learned from my Avian vet... but if you're aware of what your bird looks like when normally regurgitating as a sign of love or bonding, you'd definitely know if your bird is regurgitating in that way or out of illness. If it's an illness, it could be any number of things. For example, E. coli from possibly pooping in it's food and then eating that poop. If you're unsure of whether it's "bonding" regurgitation or illness regurgitation, I'd definitely see an Avian vet...
