Kiwi got her wings clipped
well, my little lovie (and I use that term loosely) got her wings clipped yesterday morning. She was so sweet for the girl who clipped her and really nice to me on the way home in the car. She stepped up on request, no bitting or anything. I went back to work after, and she did her Jeckle and HYde thing because when I got home she was pissed at me again and bit my ear my neck my hands a number of times. Of coarse my felling were just as hurt as my bites and iy made me cry, the dogs were good about it, trying to make Mom fell better but Kiwi was her little smug self. But atleast she will step-up for my daughter now who she formerly used to bite. So she likes one of us now. I will keep at it, trying to get her to step up.

Just try to ignore the bites the best you can, and tell her 'No' when she does bite. You can put her in 'time-out' for up to 5 minutes, but too much after that and it'll teach her that biting gets her put back in her cage where she wants to be. Don't take the biting personally. You may want to try changing her routine around a bit to 'mix things up'.

Try the floor
Glad to hear that you had Kiwi's wings clipped. Next time you have it done, you may want to ask them to trim her nails and beak as well, to remove all of her 'weapons'. The beak gets pointy again really fast though...
Also, something you may want to try with her... if my Francie gets aggressive while I'm holding her, or just won't listen, sometimes if I put her down on the floor for a minute it helps to distract her and stuff. Most birds don't feel very secure on the floor with their wings clipped, let Kiwi waddle around for a minute, then rescue her by getting her to step up. It may be just enough to throw her off and 'need' you. Good luck! |
