Lovebird question

Hi I just bought a breeding pair of lovebirds and they have sitting on eggs..They come out to eat and when they see us they go back in their nestbox...I also have a breeding pair of green cheeks and they have got 2 babies in the nest but when they were sitting on eggs at least one of them was out of the nestbox...Is this the way that lovebirds are when they are sitting on eggs or are they just scared of something?? My green cheeks are not scared at all, they are not tame but they are ok with us near the cage and I am able to take the babies out of the nest and hold them for a couple of minutes while the parents are feeding .....
Thanks Caroline

Since you just brought the lovebirds home they are probably frightened and need to get used to the new space they are in. Were they on eggs when you got them? If so then they might also be in protection mode, wanting to protect the eggs by staying with them at all times. Sometimes lovebirds become very aggressive when they are on eggs and only want to tend to them and the nest. This isn't an uncommon behavior. Also, not tame lovebirds are just that, not tame. Most breeding pairs are not taught to be sociable with people or how to interact with people so their behavior towards you is pretty natural for them.

Give them some time but do realize they ARE breeders and they might always react this way when people are around. Keep us posted!
