Can I divide a cage? Or is that bad or unsafe?

So, my mom and I want to get another lovebird very soon. But we don't have many spots to put another cage. I was thinking of selling ours that we have, or is it safe to divide it?
Basically me and a friend were going to get the same caging material and cut it so it fits in the cage right in the middle. So the section for each bird would be 33inches in height, 13 for width and 22 inches for depth. Or I could split it horizontally. Or I could do a 17x 26x22 cage.

Fabricating the cage would be a cakewalk for us too. So modificatoin for another bird including water holds, etc is no problem whats so ever.

Our lovebird right now spends most of its time out of the cage than in it. Basically Kiwi just sleeps in there , eats a bit, then she either hangs out with the family, guests, or just hangs out on top of the cage or near the window.

Heres a pic, Kiwi is hiding right above the hut, and the cage is about 33 inches in height, 26 in width, and 22 in depth.

I had finches and cockatiel and a princess parrot in a indoor flight cage. The cage has two doors on the front. I was getting frustrated that I couldn't leave the door open for the parrots to come in and out without letting the finches escape too.

So I got flat wood (maybe 1/4 inch thick by 1 inch wide?) and attached it across the middle of the cage to create a sort of slat layer. It looks like a row of perches all at the same level. I am currently trialing this with a sturdy piece of cardboard to make sure that the parrots have enough space and the finches get enough light. I think it works well and plan to get a piece of acrylic cut to size in the next couple of weeks.

Don't know if this helps or not...

Thanks it does help out. Well I guess I am more looking as if the size of the cage would be ok for the birds. I'm not sure if theres a minimum requirement or whatnot.

I dont know how good that sounds.. Pretty much as a rule, width is more important that height, and cutting that cage down the middle would take alot away from width for the birds..

Also, you will be needing another cage anyways for when you quarantine your new bird.

Good luck!
