what are my lovebirds doing

I have two peachfaced lovebirds... one I thought was female because she is a lot bigger than the other one..which I think is male because of his size........

They are trying to mate and she wants to get on top, he pulls away and tries to get on top of her........they aren't fighting just making a clicking noise.......

Why are they doing this??

Without DNA sexing there is no way to tell what sex a lovebird is. Your birds can be doing the mating dance although not mating with one another. The clicking noises sound like mating sounds to me but I dont know if thats exactly what is going on?? I know someone else will chime in here with more information.

You would have to get DNA testing to know what sexes they are.

From the behaviour you describe, it sounds like two bonded males trying to mate.

I will merge the threads, as they are the same, and move them to lovebidrs for you. I hope you get more answers there.

I have two bonded females who mount each other, feed each other and so forth. and they both lay eggs. In a way I was relieved....everytime I took away or boiled an egg, I felt guilty...now I know they are infertile anyhow.
Does sound to me like you may have two of the same sex.....but ya just can't be sure. Of course, if you don't see any eggs, that's a pretty good sign they are male.
