eva the destroyer

So last year for my birthday I was given by my friend 2 lovies that he was tired of. We named the lutino Eva, and the cremino is so shy it really has no name yet, waiting to see more personality. Right away Eva started to lay eggs. Doesn't matter what substrate you give her, grate or no grate on cage floor, long dark hours she still lays. So I talked with a local breeder, and we are wondering what would happen if she got to raise a cluth of eggs. I have hand fed many parrots, and raised my owm budgies. So we find a couple of brother birds, normal colors, and Eva is love at first sight. But the brothers are super bonded, maybe not brothers at all, one acts like male, the other acts as female. We let them out to all fly together, and they have great fun. So I guess I dont know what to do at this point. Even though Eva is a turd, and often tried to kill us, we love her for her Nepolian attitude. I am quite afraid to find her egg bound at some point. It has to stop. AND all she wants is seed. Everyone else eats everything, not her. She is very concreate in her ways. We ran into the girl that had these birds before my friend, and she told us Eva killed 2 birds in the past that were to be her friend.
...just dunno what to do next...

If you don't want babies, have you considered taking her to the vet? Your vet may be able to give her shots to help cut down on the laying. I was lucky my female wasn't aggressive at all nor did she lay eggs. She lived with two lovebirds who were brothers. The three got along famously. You should probably have her checked by a vet to make sure she isn't losing too much calcium or other vitamins/minerals. Have you tried giving them egg protein? You can sprinkle it on their food. Forget-me-not was the same way about seed. It took a long time to get her to try any fresh foods. Even when she did eat them, she was extremely picky. She would only eat certain foods out of the mix no matter how well mixed or mashed it was. Good luck with Eva. Eva is a favorite name of mine. How about Esme for the lutino? I love that name too.

Oh boy that sounds like quite the situation! I agree with the above poster, you can take her to the vet and get a shot that may or may not get her to cut down on the breeding. I too would worry about egg binding, with laying that many eggs, yikes!! LOL I like how you say Eva is a turd, I had a lovebird like that once - bit me all the time, didnt want to be near me at all and would fight me to the death if he had to, LOL. But you know what, I loved that bird so much - he was my little man. I know what youre going through!!

more on Eva

thank you both, i will try the vet, but i was turned off a bit by her because she no longer keeps birds. I feel as though I would be dead first before I would loose my passion to keep birdees. But I would be so sad if she passed. She's funny, if we leave the cage door open, she will wander out and fly to us...BUT NO TOUCHIE!!! If I leave for a few days, my friends are not afraid of the waglers conure, which is super aggressive, or my sweet meyers that likes to bite others, but they are afraid of Eva. Eva is afraid of no one...Eva la Matadora is her full name.
