My new Nyasa's (Pics)

Hi all,

Recently 4 pairs of Nyasa Lovebirds (Agapornis Linillae) came into the bird shop i part time worked at.
In Australia it is particulary hard to find pure Nyasa's as most have strains of the fischers lovebird due to decades of crossing which is sad to see that pure birds are hard come by.

Id seen Nyasas before, but once i saw these few pairs, it was like a new species!
these lovebirds were the size of house sparrows!
and better yet, Nyasas are placid, even with the smallest of birds. So my pair are now in an aviary with Black-bellied Bloodfinches, Turquoisine parrots, Bourkes, bush budgies and Stubble Quail.

Here are some pics

Wow, very stunning. Like a beautiful rainbow. That is just tragic that you cannot find a pure lovebird. How very sad.

I really love lovebirds, are they very loud? Do they make good pets, tame ones that is?

They are beautiful. Will you try to breed them and keep some of the pure bloodlines out there?

lovebirds make terrific pets, on there own that is.
I plan to breed them, but i have only had them 3-4 weeks.
I caught the hen however in a peachface box, just checking it out.
i will defantly keep pure bloodlines so other aviculturists can keep the worlds smallest lovebird. But apprently fertility is poor

Cool, I'm happy to hear that you're going to try and breed them and keep their bloodline pure. Should be interesting - can you keep us updated please?

Chinnie, you'll get varying opinions on lovebirds re: them being loud. Personally, I think that lovebirds can be noisy (meaning constantly chirping or chattering), particulary when they are paired. I don't find them to be loud (meaning volume). Sure, I could hear Beetle from the parking lot when I'd come home in the afternoon but I never got complaints about it.

Nyasa lovebirds are VERY rare in aviculture. They aren't easy breeders, from what I understand. As far as pet quality goes, they are rarely available as pets. Beetle's breeder raised them and said that they were pretty feisty and high-energy.
