Hi All:
Yes, the title fits the problem perfectly. One of my two lovely love birds is down right "horny." Most of the time I just ignore it, but occassionally it annoys the heck right out of me. Most of the time, my black-masked love bird, "Spooky," will gratify itself on the front of the cage; it sort of curls its tail toward the front of the cage bars, and then it just rocks back-'n-forth very aggressively. Unless I were to get my two lovies DNA tested, I don't have a clue as to their gender. Does anyone else experience this issue with their love birds? I would appreciate your input. I don't know how I can stop him/her from doing this, other than to get it a mate *lol* Would one gender be more likely to do this than the other? Thanks in advance for your comments...

Our male and female pair of lovebirds have never masturbated.
However, we have two pairs of male parakeets in seperate houses. One pair never pleasure themselves but the other two have their own techniques which they utilize multiple times on a daily basis- Luti invariably will take a large piece of broccoli onto a horizontal mirror and do his thing while Rillo acrobatically entertains himself as he is precariously perched on a swing or a twine rope. I had a cockatiel who seemingly could not get enough of himself as he tenuously played (euphamistically) outside on top of his house with an attached corn cob that he had meticulously and skillfully tapered to meet his needs. Our male Northern cardinal never stops hopping long enough to engage in any such activity even if he were so inclined. |

How old if your baby? My Bebe will be a year next month and his a major hornbird lol ! It usually goes away or at least calms down with age. There's not much you can do, I find if you take away the toy or perch they "love on" they'll just find something else ! Determined little buggers, mine can go all day (No shame!). I can go up to him and he'll just "beep" at me and keep at it. I've never dna tested him but I know in my like 99.5% sure he's a boy lol. Good luck!
