My daughter got me a new lovebird and...

She got it from a pet store and it is not banded. It's color is very faded and it is not as steady on it's feet as the other ones I have. Why do you think it's color is so faded? My others are just fine and colors are very pretty and bright but this one isn't. Is there anything I could try to help it's color?

I don't know much about lovebirds, but I do know some are bred to have paler colors than others. This is simply a color mutation and will not affect the bird's personality or anything else.

As for it being "unsteady", that's a question an avian vet could answer for you better than anyone on this forum.

I would just make sure that you quaranteen the new bird. You should take it to a vet as soon as possible to get it checked. This of course is just my opinion. I would hate for your other birdies to get ill.

I agree with everyone else, a vet check up and quarantine is a must.

We got a rehome a few months ago and she was a duller color than my other normal green peachfaced lovebird. We think she wasn't allowed access to a water bowl for bathing and her diet was atrocious! She is "perking" up in color a bit now.

Bird could be going through a molt or could just be a lighter mutation which is entirely possible.

Can you post a pic? Its probablly just a different color mutation than your used to, there are so many now and if it is you will never "change" its color. Its unsteady maybe because its a baby?? does it have dark on its beak?? Pics would help allot!!

I always understood that baby lovebirds are paler/duller in color than adults. It takes a while (after a molt) for the feathers to become brighter. Is your new bird a baby? That might account for the unsteadiness too.

I don't know it is nature or because something. If it is nature ( mutation ) you can do nothing. I have a pair that male is green and hen is white. They had babies that one is light blue ( very fade ). But if it is caused something, may be will change after molting.
