My Beloved Hercules

My name is Robert Cunningham, and I live in Brisbane, Australia.Hercules is my beloved peachface companion lovebird. Both Hercules and myself believe that Peachface lovebirds are not give due respect as companion Parrots in Australia,at least in the aviculturalist socities here. The United States of America Has a lot more material, wriiten there.Australia hardly any. I highly recommend looking out for The Bird Talk magazine.Good recent articles on Lovebirds are 1) Lovebirds:"More Than Just A Pretty Name" by Audrey Pavia pp52-61 May 2002. 2) Lovebirds by Melissa Kauffman ,"Readers Tell All! " pp40-49 August 2003. 3) "Whole Lotta Lovebird" by Laura Doering pp52-59,September 2004.There is a wealth of material found in these Bird Talk articles. The magazine "Pet and Aviary Birds"ceased to exist last year. This magazine began as an Australiam magazine sometime ago, either late 90s or early 2000s.Not long after the editor went to the U.S .the mazaine folded. In Australia it came out every second month. When the American edition started,it came out every other second month. So there fore a magazine arrived every month.Sadly only a small number of the American editions ever came to fruition.I can understand the anger of the many Australian Bird Breeders, who supported the magazine for so long in Australia, and who feel that the editor deserted them.I can understand that they want their money back.BUT as a companion Peaceface Parrot owner I am glad they did.One has to make the distinction between the general and the particular. One of the last issues of this magazine was issue 23 june /july 2004.This was the U.S.edition.Even the U.S. editions included Aussie authors. This issue has an article by Michelle Banfield, well known in the Australian Companion Parrot Network.Joseph Forshaw has an article on Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos. Not sure but I think he is an Australian. But with this article there is a number of wonderfull affectionate pictures of one of these Cockatoos with Karla, and Karla is a member of the Parrot Society of Australia.BUT what is most important here is that this U.S issue has an article entitled "LOVEBIRDS -GREAT COMPANIONS OR JEALOUS LOVERS? by Susan Hagius pp24-28.This wonderfull article it needs to be noted was written, also by an American. The are still some copies of this issue left .At least in the Parrot society of Australia. If anyone is interested in buying this issue, they can contact Rod Drysdale at avitrade@parrotsociety.org.au ph (07) 3388 5561 Fax (07) 3200 7090 .I have to log off soon. But coming soon .The Joys Of Hercules.Peachface lovebirds are hard work, but they make wonderfull companions. bye for now Robert
