Exclamation I think my B&G is sick

5 days ago I brought my tasha to the vet because she was acting weird that whole day, usually shes a blabber mouth and she wouldnt talk. So many hours at the vet they took x-rays and blood work, they discovered that she has a very small bladder ( which they couldnt understand cause I give her a great diet) her blood work was normal but the toxic level was a little high. By the second day she was doing well eating and drinking on her own but throwing up and diarreah. Now she isnt eating or drinking and still has diareah. The vet did give me clavamox and carafate, shes been on it for 5 days now and nothing. Shes losing weight and wants to be left alone on her cage. Now im getting worried and I guess I need a second opinion.

Thank you

Sorry to hear sad news is bringing you to the board but welcome anyway...........Back to the vet first thing in the morning unless ya think it is necessary to wake one up now for an emergency visit. Ya might also have a 24 hr. clinic around?.... I assume you went to a good Avian Vet or you will be going to one in the morning if not. Keep her warm in the meantime.......Where are you located if ya don't mind saying?....Is she drinking at all? Do you have any fresh Gatoraide or Pedialyte around by any chance? If she refuses to drink & ya don't know how to get liquids safely down her then please get up early & get right to an A.V.......What foods do you have in her cage right now?

Take Joel's advice and get her to the vet this AM.

My bird Jetson was on clavmox and would not eat either. I talked with Brian Speers office about it and they told me it is not uncommon with clavmox. The diareah may be caused from a reaction to one of the meds or the meds did not clear up the original problem. I would explain that you have seen mention from other that clavmox has shown decreased appetite. Have the vet give her some flluids while she is there.

What we say here are our opinions! Consult your vet for what is correct for your bird.

Gary

update on tasha the B&G

I took her to the vet this morning, where they gave her fluids and referred me to an animal hospital in Ithika NY so I took her there after her other visit. They will be keeping her there for a couple days, she was severely dehydrated so they will be giving her fluids all night tonight, shes only at 830 grams right now they plan to get her back up there if she pulls through. Thank you for all the support it is well needed. Please keep her in your prayers.

I hope everything turns out OK with Tasha. Avian medicine has come a long way in the last few years and I'm sure she will be fine.

Tasha,

Thank you for taking her in! If they give her antibiotics ask about the antifungals. What caused the dehydration?

You have our prayers.
