i have to agree with marcia about dogs instincts,i have a terrier and a border collie and no matter how much i have tried to train the collie not to chase things since he was a pup(cats and other dogs)as soon as he sees something run he goes after it,its not his fault,he just cant help his instincts,to him its what he is supposed to do.

That's what I'm afraid of.

So what else do you folks with birds and dogs do, besides keeping them away from each other as much as possible and never letting them out of their cage/crate at the same time?

I know this isn't a 100% solution to the problem, but would a "scat mat" help?
Scat Mats, Strips
Anyone have experience with this product or something similar?

That's basically it. That's exactly what I do and that's all it is to it, in the main scheme of things.

Hi, I have a B&G,she is 16 yrs. old. Just got her about 4 wks ago. She was raised with 2 basset hounds, and 2 kids==she would ride her bassed hounds. I have two labs and a great dane, they are all VERY interested in the new arrival " Polly". she holds her own and will bite "at" the dogs when appropriate. I am sure to supervise at all times, but having them meet, and live together is much less of a problem than I EVER thought it might be.

NEVER trust dogs or cats around a bird, especially a hunting dog. It only takes a secondfor them to get the bird.I have a poodle and put her in a bedroom when the birds are out .I give her a treat and even though she is very spoiled when i say want to get locked up she runs in there. When their in the cage I make her stay about 10 feet away if she goes anywhere near the cage i yellGET AWAY FROM THE CAGE in a very stern voice.Alot of birds get killed or eaten by family pets eek imagine how awful that would be!!!
