Question where to put perches in cage?

After a long wait, our baby yellow-collared macaw is old enough to come home on Saturday. (We are SO excited!) We have a large cage ready for him (28"x36"x56"). It has four large stainless steel cups for food -- two on each side -- all at the same level (pretty standard, I'm sure). I had originally put several perches (manzanita, sandy, bottlebrush, etc.) in the cage at different levels (I know he needs one near the top for sleeping), but I was just looking at them and I realized, how is he going to eat from all four of these food dishes? Do I need to put a perch next to each of the four cups? How many perches should I have total? Any advice?

JMO I like having a perch mounted on the inside of the cage door. I have one on all my cages and I find it is easier to get the birds to step up. I use the cement perches for my birds because they like the perch mounted on the door so it helps to keep nail trimmed.

You'll want atleast 3 perches, and maybe one or two rope perches inside the cage. You'll want to put atleast one perch near all the food dishes so that he can reach them. Since this is a macaw (long tail), you'll want most perches around the middle of the cage or above as if they are too low he could destroy his tail feathers a bit quicker! He'll probably do fine though saying that he's not too big for a macaw!
