Perfect Inexpensive Play-house/Tower

Tell me why this would not work.

It comes in a box like a giant erector set, and is available in almost every city at Sam's club. I purchased three of these today.

Set up the bottom shelf just high enough to vacuum under, set up the second shelf at three feet and then get a plywood board that goes past each side one foot. Drill four holes in the proper place and slide it down over the poles to the three foot shelf, and you have a floor for the birds and newspaper. Now set up two higher shelves for play toys and a birdbath and a perfect playhouse/tower.

I am going to put them together tonight. My sets have wheels.

I would think my macaws could love these complete with food and toys.

The bottom shelf they cannot easily get to would hold the newspapers and storage bins for toys and foods.

Tell me what you think. The link below has all sorts of sizes, but Sam's club was handy. The sized I purchased was 4' x 18".

If they're made in China (check the box), I would be concerned about lead or other toxins to put the pieces together. What type of metal (besides the chrome) is it? I'd give them a good wash with vinegar and water.

I am not that creative and my imagination is telling me that it will be nice but I can’t quite put it together in my mind. So, please post a picture of this project once it's complete. I think that you may be on to something.

Good luck!

Could even wrap it with vet wrap, huh? Though would be a task, getting to all those little space bars. Hmmm....

The shape of the "thing" is too long one way and too narrow the other.

I could order another shape, but I am loosing interest in the project.

Well, at least my wife has more storage possibilities now. lol

Anyone have one of these?

I have a couple of those shelving units also and would not suggest using them for birds because we all know Macaw chewing capacities and with the chrome and really an unknow metal underneath you would be risking their lives. Also, the welds on the wire would not withstand the beaks AND more than likely what they used to soider (sp?) the welds with probably is not bird safe. You are much better off using them for storage then taking this chance.

By any chance do you have ADD when you said that you had lost interest already in the stands? I thought I read that you acquired 5 or 6 macaws a couple of weeks after your Scarlet was killed. I guess I would still be in a state of shock and morning if I had to go through something like that and not even be able to think about getting any more right away.

Sharon has one of the Parrot Tower stands for her crew and Koko really loves it. He actually does a flip and grabs the perch that is underneath to get down on. He has taken to destroying it, chewing off parts of perches and even taken hunks off 2 corners of the base so there are actually v shaped cut outs on it. He used to be unable to get off of it and walk on the floor (seemed he did not want to ever be on the floor) but when he saw Kalea climb off a different stand and walk across the floor to get to me, well, that was all it took for that guy to stop being afraid to climb off it. Remember that Koko is a Hy who can have a temper quite often and destroy things, whereas, it should last for most normal Macaws.

Not that Gary needs defending, but I find this to be a pretty callus remark.
