Smile Advice on an RFM cage

We are really excited - we are in the process of getting a baby RFM (once it's weaned, of course!!) to add to our family. She will be the second member of our feathered flock, joining our 4 year old Hahn's macaw, Pepper. We are thinking about creating the same setup for our new one like what we have for Pepper --- that is, a day cage in our den, and a sleep cage in our bedroom upstairs. Here's where we need advice: we need some idea about the dimensions of cages for a medium sized macaw. Obviously the baby will need bigger cages than Pepper has (his day cage is about 26 w x 22 d x 60 h and his sleep cage is about 22 w x 20 d x 54 h). Would a Kings Cage 306 be good for a day cage? Any other suggestions on reasonable dimensions and sturdy brands? Thanks! Lee

just get the biggest possible cage you can afford and fit in your home, even if the bird is gonna spend alot of time out of his cage. you never wanna have them stuck in a small cage, just in case you have an emergency that you have to be away from the house for a long time or something. your new baby will use up every inch of their cage :)

Cages

No to birds see their home (cage) the same. Most of my birds like their cages and see them as protection from other birds and whatever. You can tell they feel safe inside. Sure they want out daily, but at night they want inside most of them.

So if they like their home, I am not sure the size is of paramount importance. If they spend 24/7/365 in their cage, no cage is large enough.

I would like to see a world where people and pets are never in cages. Doubt I will ever see that day. I ordered a cage this week, along with a breeder box.

I chose this cage because of the breeder box hole at the top back and the size of the cage. This is for a breeding pair of Green-winged Macaws. I would have preferred a 1.22" bar spacing, this cage is 1". I wanted a open-able top and a breeding door. I could not find such a cage in 1.22" spacing. Should be here next week. I hope they like the new home.

Green cage? I guess.

Yaaaaay! Another RFM owner I am getting a baby myself, will be home sometime this or next month! Don't you just love them

As for a cage...Bailey will be in a double macaw...never too much room for these guys and I already had the cage from a B&G I used to have.

Hi, I have a female RFM, named Cara. She is the second bird in our flock of 3. The first bird is a male Hahn's named Pepper! What coincidence! Now, if your 3rd bird will be a BTM, we'll be completely alike!!! Ha ha. DLF
