I've been following this thread closely.... The Vet is due to clear Red from quarantine today, then I can officially introduce Tiki to him.

They have seen eachother, obviously, but their "stuff" and food and anything else I can do to keep seperate for quarantine has been done, including lots of hand washing and changing clothes. They seem interested an non-agressive, but if I know my Miss Tiki she's going to try and dominate him, and I think he'll take her down a peg or two, he's a big boy, and doesn't seem like he'll take much gruff.

I plan on a neutral floor space (they are both unafraid of the floor)... to let them together. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Housing: they each have their own XL cage, I don't plan on ever housing them together for the majority of the time, but I do have an outside aviary (that I have yet to put up), so I'm hoping they get along well enough to spend good periods of time together and share an indoor stand as well. I've been holding off buying a new one because I'm waiting to see if they get along.

I have 3 macaws. a bonded pair of Red Fronts and a young Red Front - The bonded pair are in seperate cages - they tend to bully each other, I also have a variety of other kinds of birds big and small. My suggestion is what you are talking about - 2 big cages and allow interaction. This is the policy at home. Stick with same size Macaw or other bird that is same size - over all I feel it is safer. Let us know how it works!

Good luck with Red and Tiki!

Hi Brian. We started out with an Amazon, got a Military and 4 months later got a Catalina. The Military and the Catalina live in separate cages and are best friends. They do know who mom and dad are though. We make it a point to give them mama, daddy time so they remember who we are. It does get very loud in our house though...The amazon can't play with the Macaws because they are too rough with him. It will be interesting to hear what you've decided!
