I am not sure if any of you have heard my story I hate being repetitive but I am really struggling on what to do.
I bought him a week ago, We payed cash for him and his cage we were then told that we would not be able to bring him home because he was not fully weaned, which I knew most breeders do but this was a pet shop and I really wanted to be apart of the hand feeding for bonding. That is one of the reasons as to why I bought him there. I explained this to them and they said well maybe in a few days you can take him home, he is going from 3 feedings to 2 feedings and we want to make sure he is alright. Odd I thought but went along with it. I came back the next day to visit him he was happy and healthy or so I though but that little voice was saying somethings up. I questioned the staff and they said he was doing great. The next morning I called the vet and long story short I found out that its cage mate and sibbling died from Avian Polynomial virus. I was shocked and saddened but since it had already been 11 days I thought along with the vet that he more than likely would pull through. I have been driving almost an hour each way to go and see him and feed him every day this week. Last night I woke up and knew something was not right. I went strait in first thing this morning and sure enough this morning he is not eating, his nose holes are swollen and red and he is coughing and sneezing. Now this is not Avian Polynomial symptoms but I am scared and do not know what to think. I already am head over heals for the little guy. I am looking for advise. Has any one dealt with sick babies? Or a situation like this. My brain is saying get your money back but my heart is saying I need to see this out.

oh dear :(
have you asked the store owners about it? did the bird come with a health guarantee? i would demand a vet check to see what is wrong with the little guy, ESPECIALLY since his cage mate died. he should be in quarantine after something like that, as not to get the rest of the store birds sick. i hope the store is taking care of him properly.

I did demand that he be seen by a vet today, they said he was fine and I said that I knew something was not right and with him being exposed to the polynoma virus he needed to be seen so I ended up driving him to the vet. The vet said that he would be put into isolation but that is all the could tell me since I was not paying the bill. I have talked to the store owners about it. They are only willing to give me another B&G if this one dies. This is a huge mess. I was just wondering if any one had delt with this and had a bird survive or any other thoughts one might have on the situation. Thank you

Prayers for your bird! Talk with the owners of the pet store and get the details on what the bird is being treated for and what medications it is being treated with.

I went and saw him this morning, the vet told the store owners that he is suffering from a cold, they have him on some meds, I wrote the name down but left the paper at the store (doh!) The vet also told the store (or this is what the store told me the vet said) that Hendrix seems to be a fighter and doing well, he thinks Hendrix will be able to shed the polynoma virus and the cold. I am still scared it just seems like a lot for a little baby to handle. But the vet said that Hendrix has done very well with fighting it off so far, most birds his age would not be doing so well. So lets keep our fingers crossed and pray that he continues to grow stronger and fight the virus off. Thank you for your support and prayers. It is comforting. So many do not understand and think that I should just get my money back and be done with it. I just can't give up on him.

Gary, thank you for the link. I am encouraged because the articel stated "...others may seem completely normal, other than being slow to grow and feather out. These chicks learn to fly and eat on their own and appear completely normal, but they may be carriers of the virus and go on to infect others and their offspring."
Since Hendrix is our only bird I would not have to worry about the virus shedding to another bird. Also the article talked about the vaccine's. Thank you again that article was a big help.

I talked with the vets office about my birdie... the went ahead and told me what they did even though I am not the bill payer the store is. They said that the did the polynoma test and that he has a crop infection and a cold... Good grief he is going through a lot. The vet is not going to make a judgment on its health until the polynoma test and other blood test come back.
What do you know about crop infections? From what I have read, it seems that the main cause is unsanitary conditions. Thank you!
