Am I the only one that doesn't see any pictures??? Would appreciate a link if they are elsewhere.

Now without having seen the pictures and with what you're saying I don't have a clue. I do have a question though. Is it possible that this bird never had a perch and only knows the bottom of a cage?

Find your local Avian Veterinarian

certification, species, credentialing, veterinary clinical practice, vet, abvp

Here are two listing to find vets but I would stick with the first one if at all possible.

People throw around the word 'rescue' too much and it seems that word has lost it's true meaning. It concerns me this lady got this bird just recently and has not gotten it proper medical care when she recognizes there is a problem. That is why she will not give/sell you the bird - there could be legal consequences if she does. She is just interested in brokering birds it sounds like to make herself money, that is why she wants you to take the Scarlet, to cut her loses if the B&G dies and any others she has have been infected.

Your heart is in the right place, to want to help a bird, but you must be aware that you could potentially spend thousands of dollars and a broken heart on an innocent bird that, because it did not receive medical treatment much sooner, will not make it.

R2rusmc - I don't see any pictures either. I doubt if a bird is 2-3 years old it would be staying of the bottom of a cage even if it had no perches, the bird would at least be climbing on the sides of the cage. Neurological problems? Toxicity? There could be hundreds of things and I for one am not a vet to even begin to guess what might be the problems here. This woman has no business having birds if she does not provide necessary care to a living creature whose life she has been entrusted.

The decision is yours how you want to procede, just be fully informed and aware of what you may be facing. Good luck.

I have very little experience, but when I look at the pictures, I'm not seeing a healthy bird.

I hope they let you have him, he needs someone urgently

I can't find the picture either. Please post the link. I've never seen a "Picture" section on this forum.

thanks.

Main Index - Bird Photos , Pictures, and Video Albums - BirdBoard.com

The pictures are here.

I just want to let everyone know that the people that have the bird are truly good people. They are trying to do what they can for him. The reason they don't want me to take him is that they don't want to make him worse by the stress of moving him and they don't want to see me get him and then not get better. They know how much I have been wanting a macaw that is why they offered me the scarlet.

well, a scarlet is totally diff from a blue and gold, temperament-wise. if you can, find someone who has a scarlet that is mature, and talk to them about their personalities and see if you can interact with them. they are alot more stubborn and tempermental, feisty birds. some people love fiesty birds, but a feisty, temperamental macaw is not for a first-time macaw owner, JMHO. we raise scarlets sometimes for customers, but personally, i dont think most scarlets would be right for me, i love B&Gs, and gw's even more. Right now we are raising a scarlet for someone, hes prob the sweetest and most gentle scarlet we have had so far. he hasnt started to show his "cranky" side...yet. hes still very young though. he already is showing a preference for me, hes not that great with my husband, even though he plays wtih him too. he loves for me to baby talk to him and pet him, he seeks out my attention. the last scarlet we raised was way too independant and rowdy for us, he would never come to us for anything, except for his formula, sometimes. i like birds that will seek out our attention, but alot of times, the last scarlet seemed like he didnt wanna have anything to do with us, but this current scarlet seems alot different from the last one.

when i had a blue and gold, she was the sweetest, most cuddly bird ever. she would lay in my lap on her back, and i could hold her feet and carry her around like a little purse, upside down, lol. she would still play on her own, but she loved to be come down from her cage or playstand to be with me, i miss her dearly :(

Rule 101

Call the SPCA or other animal police organization in your area and turn in a written complaint.

The actions you describe being taken by the bird owner sounds like it has never been to a vet, much less an avian vet (no avian vets in my state so sometimes an avian vet is not possible.)

Call the animal authorities and make a physical report claiming abuse and neglect from your observations and get this bird the help it needs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can talk till we are blue in the face, but that does not get the bird the help it needs. That is up to you.

Out of all the posts on here, posts like yours always get me the most upset. I was almost banned here trying to get a bird helped.

We need a rule about posting threads on sick birds and what to do.

In fact I will start such a rule. Rule 101: Do not post questions about sick and dying birds. Spent your time on the telephone finding a vet or other bird resource organization like the ASCA.

Anyone smarter than me (99% of the free world- lol) figure out where these pics are posted?

Also, if you ran a bird rescue (God sakes Almighty I hate that term) that had a downed bird in the bottom of a cage doing the feathered version of "I've fallen and I can't get up" would you let a stranger in to take pictures?

I guess I smell a rat and in my opinion this thread should be pulled.

I am not a betting man but I think we have been had. I sure hope so as I like a joke much better than I do an illness being ignored.
