Greatest day EVER!

Ok so I feel like I'm getting annoying and please tell me if I am (not much activity going on in here...were have all the macaw lovers gone???) teehee but I love my macaw!

Today has been the greatest day so far in Aggie and my relationship. We spent the morning out on the front porch watching the neighbors. She loves sitting on the rail and seeing the crows fly by. The neighborhood kids would come by and ooh and ahh over her and me being the nice person I gave each of them one of her moulted feathers as a souviner to remember her by.

So here we sit on my big comfy chair with her climbing all around and helping (of course!) She goes from the top to the arm to my lap back to the top...I LOVE this bird. She is just the coolest macaw...She loves her head scritches and will sit for hours and just be petted.

She is so different than the bird her previous owners had described to me! She was described as a vicious mean spirited macaw who loved hearing women scream in pain. She tried her best to talk me out of taking her, saying that Aggie would only be happy around a man. I, being STUBBORN as all get up, said no and I would take her. I stood in her home and watched Aggie flirt with me. I fell in love right there and she would be mine no matter what. I watched as her previous owner had to wrap Aggie into a towel to get her off her perch, Aggie screaming and making a racket. In my mind I was screaming NO WONDER THE BIRD HATES YOU! She refused to handle Aggie in a respectful manner, she forced her into doing what SHE wanted.

Aggie comes to my home and is treated with respect and most of all love. She knows she is here for life. She is well fed with goodies and treats and has a thousand different toys to play with. She is more than welcome to hollar her little heart out (which she does in the mornin and evening) cause those sounds are happy to me. I rejoice at hearing her grab her toys and shrieking as she tries her best to kill them. The nieghbors don't care and the ones who can see her adore her. This bird has fast beome my love.

Her training has been going outstandingly! She is stepping up and I hardly ever use the bandage anymore (though she is in desperate need of a nail traim OUCH) She is still stubborn but that's just Aggie. She has almost completely stopped worrying over her feathers (having toys to destroy helps)

I have been taking her out for daily walks so she can be in the sunshine and fresh air. We are almost ready to take a trip to the local park...I sure hope she behaves herself. I have a large dog crate that I use to transport her in when we go for rides in the car. I plan on taking that so she has somewhere she can go when she gets tired.

She is finally getting around to eating the veggies I have been serving her YAAAY! She decided that peppers are awesome...but her favorite still is sweet potatos. I am so happy that she has stopped dumping them over the side of her dish to get at the one or two peanuts/almonds/other nuts...I want to try palm nuts but they are expensive...one of these days as a treat maybe.

Anyway, yet another one of my LONG posts...hope your birds are doing as well as mine. Give them all a hug and a kiss (if you can) from me

Dani

P.S. Outlaw I can completely understand now why you own four b&gs...

See, I'm telling ya, BGs are the best. That's why I'm forever trying to place them in everybody's home (LOL). If you really make up your mind to try to understand them, they are just the most fun, ever. My boys are funnier than TV and my girls are sweeter than sugar. I'm so happy you and Aggie finally found each other. Heck, what took you so long?

Sounds like a wonderful day. I often wonder while Im playing and doing my silly things with the birds if ALL macaw owners are just as nuttie or is it me coz there isnt anything else really I would rather do than to play with the feathered kids. I still cant imagine a home without a bird, all 5 of mine are spoiled rotten and I truly think that my life is much more rewarding with all of them in the home.

Cant wait to hear about your 2nd best day !! lol
