REpost from Macaw General board

it was suggested by another member, that I post this here and ask the experts for their advice.

EarPlugs Needed: For my neighbors & me !!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I think I'm going alittle crazy, i cant hear myself think anymore.
As many of you know, Desi the HY, she came home with us about 8 weeks ago, about as long as Ive been a member here. She is 7, this is her 3rd home. the last home she was at 6 yrs. She left there because of family medical conditions, not because they wanted to give her up, she and 6 other flock mates were put up for sale.

K, so now my hearing problem ! She screams. screams, honks, squeals .. makes such a loud racket that the GW's practically fall from their tree limbs when she starts her daily routine.

If you have a minute read this .. if not, I totally understand. The rants of a going deaf mad woman .

She is covered at nite, her bed time is 8 p.m. she uncovered at 6:30, yes she uncovers herself, her choice, not mine.

She will start in the morning with a loud moan, then its ma ma , oo ma ma etc. she does this until I walk over and give her her mac nuts & banana chips, still the only thing she will eat.

long story short, she screams all day, now granted I am at work most days, Hub says yes she screams but it is much louder and more consistant when I am around. when i get in from work, she is carrying on like someone has a hot pocker up her wing span. The GW's are getting angry, i can tell because they were never nippy birds until she came home with us.

Now, I called a HY breeder a few weeks back, she said that the screaming was because she wasnt with the rest of the flock .. we had her in a different room because of quarantine etc... well she convinced us that the screaming, honking , yelling would stop once we got her with the others. SO we rearranged the entire room, made her comfortable .. gave her lots of space where she has tons of toys and plenty of room to see all the other birds. She actually stopped her noise for about 3 days, we were amazed and thought what a bright smart woman this breeder is.

NOW for 3 weeks it hasnt stopped. My neighbors are so annoyed. They keep asking if we are bird sitting and when " THAT LOUD" thing is leaving.
The GW's make noise, its twice a day, mid morning and between 5 & 6 at nite, but thats normal and no one minds , they even yell Hello and peek a boo at each other ..

The weather hasnt gotten warmer for October and I opened my windows, well the neighbors had a fit and I thought for sure the Police would be here yesterday .. yes I have neighbors who would do that.

Is there ANYTHING I can do for this bird ? She doesnt make a sound If I take her to work ( the bird store ) .. the real full time job she cant come too.
She went visiting with hub to some bird friendly family homes and she was talkative, playing with peeople .. not here. its screaming or biting me . and yes she bites so darned hard !!!

Im lost for not knowing how to calm her. When she looks at me with that beautiful face I want to cry, when she calls me over to her cage, she she perches on my arm and we walk around the house, I think .. WOW she is awesome and I am so lucky to have her, and then...BOOM the feathers puff, she gets an attitude and its hours of screaming .

ANY ideas?? Could it be she hates the house ? She had other birds and dogs in her other home .. she is used to their sounds and smells .. I have tried all the foods they said she ate, I have tried the wonderful receipes that some of you have left for me .. THIS BIRD hates me .

Im desperate for advise.

Hi,

Please keep in mind birds like routines. I would guess she is missing her routine and the other birds she was around. Many of our birds have a routine and get up at 3:30AM and sit with us while we have coffee. If the routine changes a little they let us know.

Patience and more patience is what it takes with new birds, Hy's seem to be more demanding until they have settled in.

Please PM my wife Big_Blues and she can expand on this later tonight.

I am and have been going through this for 3 years. Bogart my B&G is a screamer. Has been since the day I brought him home. I thought it would stop and it didnt!! Now mind you it really doesnt bother me, it is my Fiance that it drives crazy and the neighbors!!! I am rehoming him this weekend and I am dying inside. If it doesnt work it doesnt work. I have no helpful advise I have tried it all. Nothing works for the long term. I wish you well and I hope that you can find some common ground with this beautiful baby!!!
