Talking ...He's HERE! (drumroll please) Tons of pics!

..Introducing, MAITAI!

We left at the crack of dawn to go get MaiTai. My boyfriend Warren was driving and obviously not thrilled at being woken up so early for such a long drive.

We drove through three states and met at a Petsmart, we actually arrived at pretty much the exact same time, lucky for us! I'm missing these pictures because my digital camera ate them :( But I saw MaiTai for the first time in a little wire bunny cage in the truck and we carefully transfered him into the big wire dog crate I had set up for him. I was warned as I was gently petting him through the bars of his wire cage "Careful, he will probably bite". Nope, never bit. Then when it was time to transfer him from cages, I was actually really shocked when his owner grabbed a towel, opened his cage door and quickly lunged into the cage and toweled him swiftly with one hand behind his neck and the other grabbing his feet and jerked him out. She quickly deposited him screaming and fighting into the dog cage. So now he is huddled in the back making scared baby caw sounds. I wanted to cry :( I couldnt believe she wouldn't even try to step him up first... but I guess she was worried he would try to fly if she did. After the first hour he came over to us in the front of the cage and started hanging out and listening to us talk:

He let us talk and feed him nuts and grapes through the bars. He gently squaeked and fluffed up every time we talked to him, and we could rub his beak and head through the bars.

He even fell asleep that way :)

A few hours later we stopped for lunch/dinner at an old fashioned drive in. While we were waiting for our food, I opened the cage and let MaiTai climb out, then stepped him up. He came very polietly and sat in my lap for scratches and to be fed bits of junk food like fries and hamburger bread. He really loves fries!

Almost home! We just crossed back into NC :)

When we got home we took MaiTai out and let him sit on Milo's old perch, was was hanging out in the kennel. He stayed there the whole time we set up his cage. He is going to remain in the kennel for his quarentine and he has a vet appointment on Monday morning.

Warren stroking MaiTai's back while I set up the cage

Me petting and getting to know him better :) He is smaller then I expected, he is actually lighter and a little smaller then Maui.

He's a total snugglebug and just wants to melt into you

His pretty tail :)

And his pretty wings :)

He is 3 years old almost 4. He seems a very gentle and a little bit scared. When he was on the perch for a while and I tried to move him again, that was the only time he bit me, and it was a gentle pinch like "NO, I really dont want to get off right now, im tired and have been in a car for 11 hours" Totally expected.

Ok, off to take care of the other creatures

Oh what a lucky bird. I have someone on the phone tonight with a seven year old plucked Blue and Gold hen for $150 near me. Insists that she needs a mate to stop plucking. Hubby says no - but I'm thinkin yes.

Did you notice the red flags lining the way?
