I really like those cages. The only problem I've heard about was the feeder doors. I don't think they really had them. I haven't been to their site for a while, maybe they've finally worked that out. Are you getting the mural? If so, which one?

Well, I'm green with envy. I think they are just beautiful cages.

I love those cages, there are beautiful. The only thing I would worry about with my birds, is they love to be on top of thier cages and I would be terrified of them chewing all the wood trims.

I would love to have the smaller one for my greencheek conure. At least he couldn't destroy it as quickly....LOL!!!!

What kind of baby are you bringing home? You'll have to post pictures when he/she gets there.

Ooooo...I'm jealous too. and looking forward to your opinion if you do get one from them. I've gotten their catalog and they do look impressive. It would be nice to hear how they work for a real life bird owner in a real home, especially with a larger bird.

Keep us posted on what you get and your experience...

I have a cages by design cage for my CAG, Platinum. When I first received it and started to assemble it, I was skeptical about haw sturdy it was going to be. But once I got it all together, I was quite impressed. I got the top cabinet which I use to hide the UV lights on a timer and a bottom cabinet that houses supplies. I've only had a couple problems with the cage.

1. Mine has the feeder system. Platinum quickly figured out how to manipulate the latch that keeps the bowls from sliding out. He would unlatch them and slide them out to escape. I have since used chain and quicklinks to keep them from sliding out. I wish I hadn't gotten the feeder system. I have since added other bowls and a birdzerk feeder for his pellets.

2. The tray system was kind of cheesy and cheap. The tray system was hard to get on track and would fall out if you shook the cage. Platinum thought it was hilarious to get on the bottom of the cage and pluck at the floor grate until the tray dropped out from the vibration. Shortly after I purchased mine, they came out with a revised system. I called them and they sent me the parts for the new system for free.

The only other complaint I have is that the thing is hard to clean because it is huge. Thank god I have it in the den and there is a set of French doors that makes it easy to wheel out (the base cabinet is on casters) to the back deck to clean.

Platinum loves his cage and the extra room it gives him to move around and play when he is not out.

I've had one of their catalogs for some time now. Personally I'm not a fan of their cages/enclosure for birds. I mean I don't know if it's an improvement on the average macaw size cages out there that would justify so much more money (for the cage and shipping). There's a GW at a local pet store in one of them. There's something about looking at a bird through glass (I know it's not really glass) that I don't like. Seems too impersonal like I'm at a museum or something. I guess because both my fids like to interact through bars and climb on them so that's what I'm used to. I originally thought of getting one but slowly changed my mind about them. I don't necessarily think they are bad rather I just don't think they are better for the bird than a regular cage. Good luck with your choice and congrats on the new fid.

Only the front is acrylic. The sides and top come standard with are 1" stainless steel welded wire. One of my concerns where about him having plenty of space to climb and play so I ordered the option to have wire on the back as well. The cage is so much larger than any other cage I've had. He loves to hang upside down from the top. Yes, the cages are expensive, but I got a pretty big payment when the company I worked for merged with another company and all my stock options that I got as part of my salary where cashed out. So, I figured why not spend part of it on my best friend. Lookng at him through glass really doesn't bother me. I can actually see him much clearer with the UV lights on. Plus he's not in there much anyway. Usually, just bedtime and when we have to go somewhere. I work from home so he is out with me in the office most of the day.
