Lowdown on the Macaw rescues...

hi guys - here is the lowdown on the Macaws slated for "birdie heaven". I talked to the woman extensively last night and today. They are safe from Euthanization. Calypso (male) the Catalina is 40 and Im not remembering the Blue an Golds age. Calypso was owned for many years by one person who died of Cancer and was once Tame. This other couple then had him and put him with Tango (female B&G) in a huge indoor enclosure and loved them and cared for them for ten years or so. They are now elderly and both having hip replacement surgeries and other complications they can no longer care for the birds and must move. They can only take one bird and that is their first Amazon. The birds have been rescued and are completely safe from death now. I am on a list to become a home for one or both of these birds. She says Im about fourth down and most have to get Oks from wives and One or both will be placed in the closest (to the rescuer) that also shows the safest healthiest environment for the birds. I expressed the most desire for Calypso the older boy and have a cage for him. She will do a home check as well. I will take both if necessary. They have been together for ten years and I think they should stay but its not my choice. The B$G has never been tame from my understanding. Tango is severly plucked and Calypso is chest plucked.
I'm very nervous and dont want to get my hopes up but I cannot help drawing plans for the outdoor flight we have been talking about. Weird part is i said if I ever got a Mac I want to name is Calypso after the woman in the pirate movies, lol. We shall see...if in fact it is ment to be

He's only 5 years off of being double my age... thats nuts.

Granted, I don't know many macaws but I havn't come across any owners of macaws that age. Would have been such a shame if he'd been put down after reaching hat age.

Hope you get him and show us loads of photos. The whole name thing has to be a 'sign'

I would be honored to give him his last and hopefully forever home. It is my intention to have all my birds forever. Its too bad we all dont know how long forever is.

Congratulations on the decision to adopt an older bird! I wish more people would do it and stop the trend to purchase babies. Older birds make awesome pets, especially ones that were someone's beloved companion for as many years as Calypso was. Thank heaven for people like you!
