Another bird wanted...

Since I have gotten some weird directions on my top choice for a second bird (Vos. Eclectus hen), I wated some suggestions for a second bird choice.

Have: A great Hahns girl (turns 8 years old), with a great vocabulary (over 50 words). Her best friend is a White eyed conure (not ours).

Want: Slightly larger bird that will be able to live with the hahns. Good talking possibility.

Enviroment: House bird, private cage for sleeping only. Desert, so mainly AC in house. Lots of showers and baths by two work at home parents.

Yep. To try and get more compatability with my Hahns. I was just about strangled over the idea of a grey over the dander by my vet's avian behavioral counselor.

I don't have a macaw, yet, but do have an ekkie male. I'd agree with you that suggesting an ekkie to go with your Hahns is odd. Ekkies are pacifists and I'd be afraid an ekkie would be pushed around by a Hahns. Just my thoughts. If I had budget for it, I'd want a red front macaw. I have no clue how it would "go" with a hahns. You know, your best bet MIGHT be contacting a bird rescue and seeing what types of personalities they have in their population and getting suggestions from someone like that (just mean, wide variety of species). My 2 cents.

What about a Yellow-collar Macaw? I love red-fronteds but from the way it sounds, you would prefer something smaller... Yellow-collars are cute! Or, you could try a Illigers...

Good Luck!

What is more compatible to a Hahns than a Hahns ?

A Macaw like every other bird needs a partner and that can be only the same type.

I agree Sacha with the yellow-collared macaw idea. They're both around the same size, and they're both macaws, and they'd probably get along a lot better than a macaw and an ekkie.
