Hybrid Macaws (pictures)

Hi,

Lets all post pictures of our Hybrids. I'm not sure how many people have them but ours is as sweet as they come. Her Name is "Lilly" and she is a Ruby macaw, cross between a scarlet and greenwing.

I guess I better get offline and tackle it :-(
But, I do need some coaching on how to post pictures and any help would be appreciated :-) (You shouldnt have mentioned pictures at all. Just makes more excuses for me to procrastinate some more)

Winged Victory, is that a Buffon's with Lilly?

I am reading the source code and Jody's file is an uploaded attachment, but winged victory's is html that points to another location for the image on the web. I can do that, but Smishy wont let me type. I wish I knew how to use my camera to take video clips, (but I can't read small print at all.) Smishy was all puffed up, bowing and screaming Shut UP at me because she wants my attention on her not the computer. Now I'm more behind then ever. Maybe I'll try the html later. I still would like to know how to upload an image. OK...I think I finally figured it out. These are my momma's boys, 3rd generation hybrid Capri macaws, Liberty & Phoenix. Nobody has bothered to ask me about their temperment yet, so I'll tell you. They can be quite frisky, play rough & tumble like puppy dogs, are very intelligent, love affection, and pinch hard to show their disapproval. They are very similar to Scarlet macaws.

I looked at your website, beautiful birds!!! How many years are you into the hybrids?

Pictures show up the best around the 500 X 500 pix size or a little smaller. I post most of my pictures from one of the photo centers on line.

Winged_Victory, could you please post a picture of Lilly's back when you have time? I am curious what her markings look like. She looks young still. Correct me if I am wrong. Hybrid macaws sometimes change color over time. It usually isn't real radical, but is something I have noticed. With Rubies they usually have some yellow on their wings when they are young, and as they mature, the yellow often fades with each molt. The end result when they mature is just gorgeous, beautiful ruby red covert feathers with emerald green tips on the back of their wings that sometimes even turn an irridescent black, and baby blue fluffy feathers with pink tips on their rear and the underside by their tails.

Capri Macaw, Liberty, decided to pay 2nd generation Camelot Macaw, Sunshine a visit earlier today for you picture buffs. They are both 3rd generation hybrid macaws.

The picture posted of Lilly is when she was around 2 years old. I'm not sure if I have a current picture. I wish I could take a picture right now but I dropped my cameral trying to rush and take a picture awhile back. Lilly is a fair sized Ruby, about 1300g.

She gets frequent baths and we spray her with Georges aloe spray (thanks for the advise Gary). I can see a few of her wing feathers that have green with yellow tips, most of them are pretty chewed though. She is estimated to be about 7 I think. We love her no matter how she looks. I am kind of glad that she clips them instead of pulling them out, atleast the folicles don't appear to have damage if she does decide to leave them alone. She is a good size bird too, today she weighed 1336, her first weigh in was 1290. I think she could still gain a little.
Jodi,

You might ask you vet if he thinks additional protein in the diet would help. Our birds get powdered protein mixed in with their nut mixture from time to time. We think it helps with their feathers and molts but have no hard data. would really like to get some thought from others on this. As you know feathers are made up of protein. Since doing this our flocks feathers condition has always been strong, bright, and bold.

Thank you for the compliment on Stitch. But as far as his parents all I can tell you about him is what his breeders told me. They told me that his daddy was a Greenwinged Macaw. So I took their word for it. Now if he has Harlequin instead of Greenwing then I guess the Breeders lied to me. Which I really aint that worried about who his daddy was Cause he is a sweet bird. We love him just the same. And Jodi thanks you also for the compliment. Both you and Many Feathers have beautiful birds. I would love to have a Scarlett Macaw or a Greenwinged. They have Very Beautiful colors. Thats what we was going to get but fell in love with Stitch.

Well Many Feathers I would say that you are right after doing research on Harlequin. I see now what a Harlequin is. That takes on a whole new prospective. See we all can learn new things. Thanks for pointing that out to me. When I read your post I had never heard of a Harlequin before, so I looked it up and well found out what it was. They are called a Harlequin because they are bred with a greenwinged and a B/G. And whats good about it is that they are very good tempered birds. If the Daddy is a Greenwing like Stitches Dad well he has the G/W build. Which you probably already knew that but Someone out there like I might not have known it.

I like the name "Stitch", good looking bird! He is healthy and very active from the looks of his tail.
