Thanks for your help with Stinky

Thank you all for your help with Mr Stinky Poop. Took him to the vet. She said he has a slight yeast infection, not too bad. She said to feed him more citrus; lemon, grapefruit, orange, and organic unfiltered, unsweetened cranberry juice. Put ½ teaspoon of organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar per cup in his drinking water. (That I had never heard of.) And wash his water bottle and stopper in the dishwasher twice a week and have two of them so it dries out in between. I suspect the water bottle as the source. It is a large one and can last more than two weeks easy and I didn’t change that often.

Yogurt and cheese help the gut flora too, but not too much of either because it it dairy! The apple cider vinager is excellent too as well as cranberry.

yeah, changing the water can be a key - i change the water 2x a day... just to be on the safe side... i do it when i feed them

glad to hear it's nothing serious

Live yogurt should be fine to feed even though it is dairy... Why? Because it contains lactase to digest the lactose. This is why it's safe for birds to eat without issues.

If you feed any cheese at all, it has to be hard cheeses because hard cheeses contain less lactose than soft cheese... and the longer the cheese is aged the less lactose it contains, thus some may contain no lactose whatsoever.

Glad you were able to find out the cause of the problem and can safely treat it!

Just keep in mind, citrus will effect the quality of the pellets he is eating... that's why if you feed your birds pellets, they recommend keeping citrus to a minimum.
