Unhappy morgan the macaw update

hello all i am all of a sudden really sad about morgan not being able to play or walk or climb and perch and it was really nice this past 2 days and i usually take him out on his play gym and he takes a bath and sits in the sunshine and now all he can do is lay in a carrier bottom and i just am so saddened by it and sometimes i get angry at myself and just want him to beable to live his life again and not be stuck in a damn baby diaper and be able to bath and fling water on his wings but noo he cant do any of that and i went to a pet store the other day and well i forgot how a another macaw acts perches and plays and he was only 1 year old but still had like no balance and i just wish morgan would be able to do what he wants i can see it in his eyes he is frustrated and upset with not being able to climb yes it is true he is in good health and he is happy with me and i work my butt off to make his a smidgen happy of what he used to but it doesnt seem enough

im sorry if i upset anyone but i break down and cry actual tears of frustration and sadness for him and it seems i am weak but i just want morgan to be able to play and have fun

I think animals deal with handicaps better than we do. They live in the moment most of the time, and appreciate what they have. Morgan has all of his basic needs met and is loved; that is more than many beings ever experience. Thanks for caring so much!

You need to take a deep breath and think Morgan, is happy just being alive and taken such great care by a MOM who truley loves him, for whatever he is going through. We had a thoroughbred that got cast in his stall at 2 yrs old, he was 17 hands and very talented mover for dressage. Well he pinched a nerve in his spine, and walked like a chicken for a year, we did massage therapy, heat/cold and just plenty of out in sun, grazing and taking it easy. Well after vet had suggest putting him down, and I wouldnt he was a beautiful chestnut with 4 white matching socks, and a perfect blaze down his face, the sweetest horse I had ever raised. At the age of 4, it was spring and one of our grooms had turned him out, I was returning from picking up a couple of horses we had at a track, he trotted along side the truck all the way to the barn. I had not seen that in 2 years, at the age of 5 he went on to be sold on the show curcuit for $45,000.00. I just want to share that yes bad things happen and for some they do work out and I always look at those as a learning to make me stronger and always to look for the good and positive. My late Mom use to tell all of us, God will never give you more than you can't handle, if it happens to you there is a reason, for maybe another could not/ or would not deal/see it through.

Ouch! I dont like dentists- so I feel for you! I do know how when it rains it tends to pour. A good cry is good, but then smile and give Morgan a smooch and he will make you feel better as well! We are all here for you- PS I was born a Maine kid!

There's no shame in feeling frustrated. It's not like you're mad at Morgan, it's that you're mad at his situation. If you weren't feeling frustrated, you wouldn't be the caring, compassionate person that you are. There's nothing wrong with a good cry or two, or three! Just keep your hope up, and enjoy him as he is (as you do!). /hugs

Oh, I've just read this thread and want to say, it is very understandable feeling frustrated, but you are doing remarkably well with Morgan, and I am sure he knows and appreciates all you do for him. One time, I had a very, very sick dog. He was in the vets, and we had to leave him. The vets that saw him (they had several look to try to diagnose) all told us that it struck them how good he was with them, and how they could tell he knew they were trying to help him. I am sure Morgan feels the same way about you. It sounds like he will come around. I am not at all medically inclined (frankly if I get a paper cut I can't even put a band aid on myself), but I have heard with nerve damage it is just a big long waiting game, and you don't know when or how much they will recover. But, it sounds like Morgan is still progressing, even if it is in very small increments. So, hang in there, take one day at a time, and let loose here whenever you need to. We understand the emotional attachment you have, and the frustration with not being able to make it all better immediately.
