Soft Perches

Zoe went to the vet today for her annual checkup. She has sores on the bottom of her feet from the way she perches. She has manzanetta perches in her cage, a round metal perch in the kitchen and bottlebrush in the family room.
Has anyone ever heard of any soft perches that are available? The vet recommended wrapping the perches in towels but to be careful how I attach them.
Does anyone else have a lazy B&G who rests on her haunches. I was also told she has to lose weight.

Just be careful Zoe don't pick at the towels. Romeo did that & got the strings tangled around his neck. Scared me to death. You could attach them with vet wrap, it holds pretty good. Crystal

Something the size of a face towel and held with vet wrap. I wouldn't do it to the entire perch, just a section so that she has the option and it doesn't present a fear reaction.
You could also try wrapping it in twine which would be more of a draw to pick at than the towel.

Why not replace all the perches in the cage with rope perches? And get a couple rope perches to go with the bottlebrush gym?

Update on soft perches

Zoe, the big baby, is afraid of the towels wrapped around the perch. I only wrapped it half way so that she could get used to it but she won't go near the towel.
Guess I'll try rope perches.

Try replacing them slowly. Put one in next to the sleeping perch and lesve it for a week or so then replace another.
Just remember that they need a variety of perches, so even if it's only the sleeping one that is replaced, that's a start.

Could be the size of the perches also, try smaller and/or larger sizes. Need to have different sizes. MANZANITA is a very hard wood, try a softer wood even. You could also try vetrap to cover the perches you already have.

We have rope, cement, sandy, lava, flagstone, wood perches in every cage. You could try shorter perches and get them to meet in the middle.

Hope you find something that works.
Jane

bubba has a foot deformaty, he rests on his haunches all the time, his long rear toe crosses over to the front so his feet look like a softbill's, but he can uncross them to use them like a parrot is supposed to. its supposedly a cerebral problem in his brain caused by to much moisture in his egg while develpoing, and or to much humidity in the brooder
