Question Water Changes

Hello everyone again,

The wife and I was discussing how often we was to change our Macaws Water in his Water bottle. She said everyday and well I said not that often. So can anyone help us settle this. We know change the water in his bowl everyday. But as far as his water bottle? How often?

I change my water bottles daily and the bowls 2-3 times daily....I don't know if every day is quite necessary....but....I just know if I was in the birds shoes....I'd want me some fresh water.....so...thats what I do....

I change our bowls twice a day and the water bottles every two days. I put one drop of gse in the water bottles to curb any bacteria.

Joel, I use the 32 ounce bottles. I wish I could use them on all the cages but we have some birds that enjoy taking them down as fast as we can put them up. Several are our birds are what we call dunkers and use their water bowl to make soup every day, these are the dishes that get changed most often.

My scoundrels have learned to destroy Lixit bottles tips as fast as I can hang them, so I've had to take them all down as well. Frankly, I change the water dishes at least twice daily and anytime I notice any "soup" being made. The quickest way to a sick bird that I'm aware of is through contamination of food or water. Its simply more cost effective to keep things as safe as possible.

I change mine every day washing it with soap and water, disinfecting with bleach every 2-3 days. I sometimes will leave the bottle on for two days when I leave my birds in somone else's care.

Great tip about the GSE. I use it when I make sprouts, a little bit in the first soak, which is then rinced.

water change

I use bowls and bottles and the bottles get cleaned and changed every day, the bowls get cleaned and new water every time i see that they need it so it could be up to 5 or 6 times a day with some birds.

I dont think 2 days would be bad for water bottles depending on the quality of the water and any additives you chose to put in it.

If you add vitamins the water needs to be changed in the bottles every day to stop bacteria from building up.
