We have a new Greenwing Baby, question?

We have a new baby Greenwing. We have a blue and gold so I know what a macaw screem sounds like, but his screem leaves your ears ringing. The breeder said this was a baby thing and his mature greenwings are mostly pretty quiet birds. I'm thinking there is something that he wants or needs and I'm not meeting his needs. Has anyone else had a similiar situation? The screems don't bother me much, but it hurts my hubby's ears. Yes, I do know that all birds make noise and the rest of my flock take times during the day, but mostly they talk, with the exception of my sun conure that squawks a lot. He is in quarantine now, it won't be so bad when he gets moved into the bird room, but for the time being he is in the living room with us. Any information would be appreciated.

My GW is the quietest of the flock. She is also a very hands-on bird. They need that interaction when they are little... heck they need that interaction when they are adults too.
When is Q-time up, he really needs to know he's a bird and getting him with the rest of the flock will make a big difference in his adjustment, both mental and physical.

My 1 1/2 y/o GW male is the most vocal bird in the flock (talks up a storm, as well as making "monkey sounds" and seeing what else he can come up with)--but he doesn't scream unless he's frightened or has a scuffle with one of the other macaws. Have you had this baby to an AV for a checkup? If not, you may wish to schedule an appointment for this new bird asap, just so you can set your mind at rest, as well as get professional advice.

I don't think one of my GW's can even come close to the screams of my B&G's.You didn't say how old this baby is and if he is weaned yet? I have to second what Irish said,it may be time for a Vet check.

my greenwing is really quiet, but has his moments. (right now, he's yelling at me to "come here") During the day, you wouldn't even know we owned macaws! Could yours be begging for food at all? I doubt it, because I think it would be a different noise, but you never know. How old is he?

I have 3 GWs and 2 BWs and I agree that the BWs vocally out blast my GWs any day. My GWs are pretty quiet with the exception of talking on occasion. They play together, but need continuous interaction with something, other birds, toys, or parronts. They are active and need to be challenged. I agree with checking with your vet to ensure that he is healthy.

Vet checked? Sounds like a good idea, on the surface. However, who is checking the vet? You need a board certified avian vet.

Birdsnways - Board Certified Avian Veterinarians

If your vet is not on this list, think again about his/her ability to correctly do what is best for your feathered friend.

My male Scarlet went to a lady on this list and they still came away with a poor diagnosis of his feather picking problem. (Manhattan, KS Kansas State Univ)

Going to a vet is no guarantee your bird is getting what he/she needs.

My advice, never leave your bird alone in the hospital. See how the staff relates to your bird and never be afraid to ask questions or challenge authority. You are the human voice for your feathered friend.

How old is your baby? Is he fully weaned, or are you hand feeding?

It seems like everyone is on the right track or at least slightly thinking the same thing. I too questioned was this baby weaned. Even if he/she is weaned, it's not unlikely or uncommon for a baby to regress a little.
