Greenwing Macaw Eggs

Has anyone ever heard of 5 eggs in one clutch? I know a breeder who says he has 5 eggs and everything I have read says they have 1-3 eggs in one clutch. So if anyone has any information, I would appreciate it.

I have never heard of it... Is it theoretically possible? Perhaps but it would have to be a HUGE hen! and the breeder was lucky she didn't become egg-bound.

everything I've read on macaws states 1-4 eggs in a clutch. One article did say on a rare occasion they will lay more than that. My blue and gold laid 3 eggs total. There is alot of information on macaws and breeding, feeding, behavior etc but alot of it is contradictory from site to site. I'm running into that problem myself. lol

I know with budgies, lovebirds, and cockatiels, they say the average clutch is 3-6 eggs, although it is not too uncommon for them to lay a couple more... however, some have been known to lay more than 10 eggs in one clutch (I've seen this before with a budgie! good thing none were fertile!)

So in truth, it does not surprise me if a macaws clutch is just a little larger than normal... however it may require moving chicks around or handfeeding some at a younger age than normal to ensure that all chicks survive. (i.e. if the parents can't handle raising that many chicks)
