Are you wondering about the hybrids or the mutations??? I've seen photos of a pied severe, and a cinnamon severe, I believe... On another board I had posted some other mutations, I think, though can't remember for sure...
Mutations though in macaws are very rare because it takes a longer time for them to mature (5 or so years), and they normally only breed once a year, with 2-3 chicks normally. You see more mutations in the smaller birds because they mature at a quicker age (1+ years) and can lay 2-3 clutches a year with 3-6 chicks in a clutch. Because of this factor, and the fact that we have only kept birds as pets within a very short amount of time (talking about how to care for them properly, breeding, etc) all this is still very knew, even if it is older than myself. Many-Feathers, the photo that you added of the white scarlet is the first photo I had seen of any macaw mutation and had at first thought it was a cross between a scarlet and a cockatoo though figured it was impossible. I had also seen the owner in some of the photos and was wondering if you had any more??? Or knew where more were??? As far as the blue and gold mutation, I believe the best you could call it would be a pied... As for another B&G mutation, check out this photo! ![]() This is an image of 3 chicks from the same clutch, one of which is normal. The other two are lutinos. Sadly to say though, only one of the lutino chicks survived, so there should be atleast one lutino still left in this world... check out this link http://www.critterbreeders.com/lb&g.htm even though its not updated...

Thanks for the answer Monica, that was very informative! Those Lutino's
are absolutely fabulous, very unique! Well I guess you can't help but love them when you have a lutino Lovie! Thanks for bringing this up guys, I knew nothing about macaw mutations and it's really interesting to see what's out there! |
