Exclamation have a question.. can anyone help ??...

Hello. Does anyone know if 'YUKKA PLANTS' are ok for macaws?? I am in the process of building 'ROMIE' his outdoor cage/jungle-gym and want to know if I could use the trunk to a yukka plant to hang in the cage for him to play on?? I left the plant outside all winter cuz it was pretty much dead from being uprooted to many times (kept tipping over). I pulled some bark off the other day and it's not completely dried out yet. I tried looking online to see if this type of plant is poisonous, but nothing.

Can anyone offer ANY info??

I have attached a pic so you know EXACTLY what plant I am talking about.

Thanks.
Sincerely,
Haniyya.

Salam (Peace).

Not On MY LIST!!!!!

Plants and Pets - Toxic Plant Listing ~ Pawprints and Purrs, Inc. Last one on the list

Here is the safe list
Plants and Pets - Non-Toxic Listing ~ Pawprints and Purrs, Inc.

The only problem I have with this list is that horses and deer EAT poison ivy.

BTW
Are you sure its a Yucca?
I am not saying it isnt a yucca.

But a much more common house plant is the Corn Plant which looks similar to yucca.

Just double checking

Exclamation

When I bought it I was told it was a Yucca. The leaves on it were pointy and very stiff... and it would poke me all the time.

I just REALLY would like to know if the trunk of this plant is SAFE or not to use. I know the two others who replied (and thank you for doing so) said it WAS safe and that it WASN'T safe... so I'M NOW CONFUSED.. LOL.

If anyone can offer and SOLID info/proof it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Salam (Peace).

I can understand your concern, so I Googled it. I input parrots & yucca? and came up with a site which seems good. The site is Parrots, safe plants to feed your parrot. The site gives a safe plant list which shows yucca as safe and if per chance it is a corn plant as suggested, it shows as safe too. Hope this helps. I frequently need help and the folks on this forum are GREAT.

The reason that some say bad for birds are because of the thorns. Just cut them off and then every site I've seen says that they are alright. Here is a list off of one site, but I've been finding that some sites are missing some in their lists...

This list is a compilation of several different lists printed by various bird clubs and magazines and some local "common knowledge" about plants that are non-toxic and safe for birds.
Always use caution and common sense in your plant choices. Remember that birds have a delicate system and that a "large" quantity of any plant or fruit could upset their systems.
