Question moving with our macaw

hey guys David and I are moving into our new house this week, and I was wandering if anyone has any advice for easing the stress on Rio... I don't want this to be a traumatic event for him. we are only going about a mile and a half from where we are now. the thing is he is going to see us moving everything out to the moving truck before we dismantle his cage and move him. david says he is gonna be fine, but he is such a momma's baby. Maybe Iam just stressing for nothing, but I really would like the advice.
Thanx
Candi

Rio will find comfort in familiar things set up in a familiar way in your new home. That would include his cage and toys. The more that he is familiar with in his new surroundings, the less the stress, and the faster he'll get over it.

The familiarity of his own things will help, but you are the flock leader, and the less you stress, and the more you can show that you are happy with the new place, the easier transition he will have.
My flock goes back and forth with me to our two places. and they are quite happpy because they have me. They have hubby too, but I'm with them more, so they look to me for comfort.
No problems in 3 years!

When we moved into our new townhouse Bogart seemed to take the move quite well. We simply didnt make a big deal about it. He took his move to Jill's quite well as well. Soooo I say just move him and dont make a big deal about it.

Macaws can be pretty flexible when it comes time to moving... as long as their favorite toys and companion person is there, usually they'll do okay!

Good Luck!

Pumpkin has two cages. One in the house and one we travel with. The other night we came home late and I knew he was tired. I had cleaned him home cage and was not set up and was too tired to do so. I simply left Pumpkin in his travel cage, covered it and he fell right to sleep. I think it was because it was something he was familiar with, he was ok. I'm sure if there's lots of movement but you are with him, it will be ok.
