Shellygirl, I wanted to thank you for answering peoples questions and don't talk down to them. You seem like you really want to help. Some advise from people come across as if someone's question was so stupid. peolple need to think that the reason this site is here is to help out or don't answer at all. So I thank you again. Shelly,

Believe what you want... some birds are gonna be bigger than others--plain and simple... If you want to believe what you currently believe, then there would be "Giants" in every species including ours.

There has to be a physiological difference to be a sub-species. All animals are going to have variants of the norm, whether they are larger or smaller... I have seen some GWs that are 1100 grams; are they Dwarf GWs? No...they're simply small.

I have seen some they say are Bolivians and they are bigger but don't know if that is what they are.

I do remember reading on a forum where a breeder said she "attached'' the name ''bolivian'' to some of her bigger B&G's, because people tend to want the "bolivians". It's good she admitted that, but because of it, I would never purchase anything from her myself.

Hi RMSacha, I did not realise that a person had to turn bitter in order to make a point....Did you realise that there are subspecies of certain macaws?

Military Macaw Ara militaris
Subspecies
mexicana
militaris
boliviana

Buffon's Macaw Ara ambigua
Subspecies
ambigua
guayaquilensis

Chestnut-fronted Macaw, Severe Macaw Ara severa
Subspecies
castaneifrons
severa

Red-shouldered Macaw Ara nobilis
Subspecies
nobilis
cumanensis
longipennis

As well as this site has informative information on the Scarlet subspecies:
http://www.ibiologia.unam.mx/pdf/lin...5_2_99-104.pdf

If there are so many subspecies already known of then how can a person intelligently say that there aren't any GW or B&G subspecies? Only a couple of decades ago scientists thought that the blue throated was an immature B&G! And that Eclectus (the male and female) were actually two different species due to their different colours. Also, RMSacha, please refrain from "talking down" to me. We are all here to share and appreciate information about our fine feathered friends.

I think before anyone goes and claims that a species has a subspecies, I think one first needs to understand what both of those terms are.

Species - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Subspecies - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And once that's fully understood, then to understand what genetic diversity is within a species that DOES NOT create subspecies (but may over time produce them).

Genetic diversity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As far as I see it, there are no subspecies of Scarlets, B&G's, or Greenwings...
"Bolivian" Scarlets?

Lexicon of Parrots - B&G Macaw
Lexicon of Parrots - Scarlet Macaw
Lexicon of Parrots - Greenwing Macaw

Shellygirl,

Ummmmmmmm... I am NOT bitter, it takes A LOT more than that for me to turn... and yes, I do realize all those subspecies you listed...

I was not "talking down" to you--I was merely trying to make a point and yes, I do know why we are on various boards... BUT I also want to correct and prevent any wrong information from being given... plain and simple.

'nuf said?! Have a great day!
