Giant is not an official word for any Green Winged macaw species that I am aware. You will find it used incorrectly by a couple of bird sellers on the net.
These sellers must feel they have large birds. Which is rather funny as all healthy Green Winged Macaws are quite large. If you had a stunted macaw would you call that regular size?

Memory tells me there is one species of large macaws that does have a larger subspecies or cousin. I think if I remember correctly it is Scarlets. Other than that, I do not think there is any official larger macaw. Science changes every few years. So anything is subject to change.
When I was a kid, my local weather station made week long forecasts that were pretty accurate, now it is like pulling teeth to get a weather report longer than about ten minutes. As we advance, I am afraid we only fall back.

Bolivian B&Gs perhaps exist... Look at the book "The Large Macaws" and they describe 3 subspecies... I say perhaps because today so many breeders use terms or buzz word to sell their babies--if the prove that their birds do indeed come from Bolivia, that's another story... as for Giant GWs, it's another buzz word... it really is sad that some people are trying to make a couple extra bucks from a word...

Macaw Books
![]() This is a great book, and a great big book. I found a gently used copy on amazon for about fifty dollars off retail. We have about thirty bird books, mostly Macaw books. However more and more knowledge is available on the net.

From what I have read there is such a thing as large greenwings as a seperate species than the GW we generally see. They are only slightly smaller than the hyacinth You can just type in Giant GW and your search engine can easily show you the differences...
