Lightbulb Morgans Life Story

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

this is how morgan came to be in my house hold okay its long so here it goes
i worked at pet paradise in virginia beach for a few months and then came in a shipment of new baby macaws so many colors on fuzz butts and then my husband came to visit me at work as usaul to play with the birds and he spotted the macaws well he touched a baby and jumped cause he was a lil scared. I said he was ok and he proceded to hold all 7 of them well he went by mr morgan and at 4 months old morgan knew what he wanted
he grabbed my hubbys shirt it was so cute they fell in love instantly. so after 2 weeks of visiting morgan at the pet store his grandma sent him money to pay off the truck loan but he wanted morgan so he went to my work and well watched for 10 mins or so how many people said they wanted that baby and finally after 11 people saying that he told them put him on hold i will be right back so he came back and boom put payment on morgan well he was now mine but he was handfeeding so i got directions on how to feed and since i worked there i got to open up the store and first feed him. I got him home and boy it was so exciting and scary at the same time it was like bringing home a baby for the first time. after the first few handfeedings we bonded and that was it we spent everyday together and went for walks and everyone stared and smiled but i was the proudest momma on the block

lets skip a few chapters morgan was weaned completely at 6 months or so his first word was hi and second was hello he loved scritches and hugs and kisses so at 1 yr old we moved from one apartment to another he did very well and met some friends and we still went and visited the pet store to let him be handled by as many people as possible of course with clean hands. We then visited maine on a long drive and he did wonderful and loves to travel thank god but now at 2 yrs he talks walks runs and plays does tricks and loves everyone except daddy poor hubby

Now here comes the sad part february 1st 2008 i left in the morning as i always did for work well i had a rough sad day cause at 4:30pm i had been fired for being different cause they were rude and just plain mean. but i came home in tears and i walked into the door and morgan greeted me with a hi momma i scrathed his head and preceeded to get undressed from my scrubs as they detested me at that moment. and then i heard the sound i never wanna hear again. he fell from his top perch to the bottom one and then thud and usually he is clumbsy and gets back up laughing all the way well all i heard was a swish of the tail on the paper and nothing else i thought he broke his neck but i rushed to his side and he was alive but barely he was labored breathing cause of the stress well my husband could see how upset i was and said we should get out and try not to worry but if he passes he will come in the house and check first. I couldnt concentrate on anything but morgan so the next day my heart sank i came home to a purple faced blue ring around his beak and less movement omg i balled my eyes out and my friend was there so was her 7 yr old and he asked why i was crying and i said morgan might not make it his head was falling back and he felt less then 1 lb he lost so much weight in one night.
I didnt give up i went with my instinct and took a turkey baster and mixed peanut butter and water well after a couple forced pushes of that he perked up i was so happy and so i proceded to call the vet no luck not open so first thing monday i rushed on the phone and made an emergency visit and he was less then 1lb and i love my avian vet i had seen him before when pete my quaker broke his leg but i wrapped it so well and set it right he didnt need to do anything i prevented pete from going into shock. not the case with morgan

but was told he was in shock and majorly bruised his hip and pulled his tail out badly but other then that me making the desicion to put him on baby bird formula and baby food was the right decision but suggested to put him on pellets so i tried that after 2 days and he loved them. the avi vet also commented on how i should become a vet tech lol i would but i cant handle blood. he was given a shot of steroids and got oral steroids to build stregth for 14 days

but he now is great no more shots and he has put on alot of weight and once again the vet comments on how good i am with him. he did have to a tailfeather pulled cause it was alittle inflamed but thats it he is 100% healthy just cant walk but he is trying he know can grasp and his twitches are few and far between yay and well he is trying to climb but cant hold up his weight enough to actually climb and perch but i am amazed at far he has come so there you have it the complete story

he is only improving everyday we have rough spots here and there but he is flourishing and comming through this

It's a wonderful story! Thanks for sharing! I can't help but wonder however, if Morgan was trying to somehow relieve the stress you got from work? Which is why he hurt himself? Cause he loves you so much?

Glad to hear in the least that he's improving!

I guess it shows how lucky all our birds are. I mean, between all the posters we must have a thousand birds. I personally have had Macaws for over fifteen years and if you count all birds, I had small birds with my Mom forty five years ago. Well in all that time, no bird I have ever heard of ever slipped and fell. Guess we are all very lucky.

Must have been a stressful day loosing your job. That stress can build up and spill over into personal relationships. Sorry this all happened, and I am especially sorry for Morgan.

I am not a playful man, but I will try to muster up a little Karma and send his way. Wonderful thing about Karma, it always has a way of working things out in the long run in a way that floats all boats, even the sunk ones. You are in my thoughts Morgan.
