birds going outside

I have a question that I hope isn't too strange. Does anyone here have a bird that does not like to go outside? We have a 16 month old green winged macaw and every time we try to take her outside it seems to be an ordeal. She definitely does not like to be harnessed but we figured once she sees that she gets to go outside it will get better. She does calm down once we're outside but she doesn't seem to really enjoy being out. And when she sees our house again she tries to fly towards it. Even if I just carry her out to the mailbox with me she leans towards the house to go back. We have an enclosed patio in our back yard and she has some really big perches out there and when we put her out there she squawks loudly and flies to the back door to come in. We're trying to get her outside for some sunshine! We also have a red bellied parrot and he LOVES to be outside. He comes to life just talking and whistling the whole time he's outside. Is it normal for some birds to only be happy indoors? Thank you!!

maybe he's just a little frightened of "that big room with no ceiling" smile. my caique is transfixed with the outdoors..he cocks his head up at the sky and just purrs away, don't know if he really likes it (i think he does) or if he's a little unsure??

Every bird is diffrent. I guess I would respect his/her wishes and not push the bird into places they do not want.

Birds have been reported to be smarter than people, and I have known tens of thousands of people and birds, and I guess I feel most birds are ahead of most humans in several areas. lol

Well if birds are so smart, maybe the birds knows something about the great outdoors you have not noticed. Maybe a hawk at 3000 feet? You would never see it, but your macaw would.

Look he has a smile, loves being outside with us. We are very careful, as we have prey birds that have actually ripped birds from their cages.
