Talking OK I finally trimmed Hannahs' Nails(fun)

I've trimmed Stimpies (my conure)nails, Ive trimmed CJs (my CAG)nails, and many other small birds nails before, but I have NEVER had the experience of trimming a Blue and Gold's nails! What Fun!

Lets see here first you need some Large towels, one snip snippy thingy, one puzzled and confused Blue and Gold Macaw (with ungodly overgrown nails that have never been trimmed) one other person to hold down the Macaw (the business end that is) and to provide some moral support, and administer first aide to the person operating the snip snippy thingy on the macaw.

I have wrapped up many a bird in a towel, but this particular bird just refused to be wrapped up, but with a lot of wing flapping and squauking my wife and I managed to get her all wrapped up and turned over, now the next task retrieve foot from within the towel, beak and feathers, it took a bit of struggling and rewrapping of the now pissed off macaw(beak was starting to be a problem with pissed off macaw)but me managed within a few minutes. Now the hardest part-can anyone tell me how you get a balled up macaw fist unballed?.........anyone?.........anyone? well I am kinda at a loss for answers on this one too. But after a while we managed, but I still felt that I was hurting her in the process, but once I got them unfurled she did verywell. I only got one bleeder, but my wife was right there with the first aide for her.

Now......when we were finished we were fearful of letting her out of her towel with that huge beak of hers we were starting to think we were going to get out of this missing fingers or what not. But when we let her out she was great about it! no bites no squawking, nothing!
she just shook it off and put her head down for scritches!

Man! I don't know what it is but I just really love this bird! She is everything I imagined she would be like, she loves the whole family, lets anyone touch/handle her even total strangers! I really lucked out with this one!!!!!

Hi. I have the same problem with my conure, balling up her feet, at nail trim time. I read somewhere that you can give them a dowel to hold on too. I tried it and it worked.
