Unhappy Plucking again

Calypso is pulling out his new chest feathers - he just preens and preens. We do baths and toys and good food *sigh* and he likes to be with us all the time. I figured this might happen...maybe I should try the Pluck no more? what do you think....

Aww and he was just getting them back!

I'd say give it a try, I don't know what kind of results you'll get with it. I haven't had to use it yet..Seems my Fids like to keep their clothes on.

I swear by it. It has worked a couple of times for me. My Severe... Marvin started plucking about a month or so ago. His booty was naked and his back under his wings. Took him to the vet, everything came back fine. Decided he was just going through a rough molt. He would get mad while preening and pull the new feathers out... sheath included. Started the "Pluck No More" in his water bowl. (No fresh fruits and veggies while in use.) Also, started misting him with Harrisons "Avi Soother". I checked him this morning... all new pin feathers have come fully through the skin and are starting to fluff open. Hes not pulling them out either. I also re-arranged the inside of his cage and moved it to a new location in my living room. He is a happy bird... so far so good. I have also used the "Pluck No More" with an ever so bored Blue Crowned Conure I had once upon a time. It took a little longer to work with her but it did and she never plucked after that one incident. If I noticed her starting to "over-preen" I would start her on the "Pluck No More" both orally and topically. Thus in my opinion ... IT WORKS. Sorry for the long post. I am really sad for you that Calypso is starting to pluck again. He was doing really good. Hopefully you can get him back on track. Fingers crossed.

Where can I get the Pluck No More stuff? My crow has terrible feather problems. We've tried everything that we could think of.

I would love it if this stuff would work for Ollie. I feel so bad for him.

Its made by "Kings Cages." They have a web-site... follow the link:

Kings Cages International LLC Online Shop (powered by Kings Cages)

You may be able to find it in the pet store a little cheaper. I buy mine from the pet store up the street and its only $30.00 instead of $35.00 plush s&h. I do not use the shampoo though... dont think any of my fids would allow it and Im not willing to try and lather one up either LOL. I think its cool you have a crow. Also, how is your new Festive Amazon? I never seen one before until today... they have a baby Festive Amazon at the bird store up the street. They are smaller than most amazons, very pretty though.

Thanks guys. He DOES seem to get mad when he preens - he even will bite his legs on occassion and make a grumpy noise like he does when anyone gets to close to his tail, lol. His skin is clean and healthy. He absolutly loves his chain and its broken - I need to get him more chain. What is it with Macs and those big plastic chains? Ive heard others say they are a nec. part of a macs life, lol. He wraps himself up in it! Maybe I should call him "Ghost"!!

Nudist at heart. I guess he just really loved the hippy era of his life and still wants to feel 'breezy'

But seriously... hope 'pluck no more' works for you. Must be frustrating.

LOL... Newt and Elliot are both like that with those chains, especially Newt.. I go through tons of those in a years time. Newt absolutely beats the snot out of those OR like you said wraps himself up in them. He's now taught Elliot to beat them up too.. LOL .

I do have a question about the pluck no more. What exactly is it supposed to do? Fortunately, I don't have pluckers, but how does it actually STOP the plucking?

I don't have him yet. I go to pick him up next Wednesday. I won't be home until Friday so I'll post about him as soon as I can.

So how big was the Festive you saw, compared to say a Grey?

plucking

Just FYI...I went thru 3 bottles of Pluck No More and at first it seemed to work...but my female Eclectus never completely stopped plucking...After trying every piece of advice and research, I have come to believe that it is the breed, that they are easily bored, and that once it becomes a habit there is nothing to but to love her half naked. I also think most birds would be happier in an aviary and not caged...but we have them, love them and don't all have aviarys.
