Nope.
I feel your pain. I keep one (100%) beeswax with all cotton wick in my bathroom, but only when Darwin is locked up. Those are the only bird safe candles (very important that there are no added scents and no metals in the wick) and I still don't trust them in the same room or even close to birds.

I use candles from a company called Thousand Hills Bath Co. They are soy candles with cotton wicks, so they are bird safe and they come lots of fragrances. They are also much less expensive than Yankee Candles.

If a candle gives off a fragarnce it means that the candle is spreading a chemical vapor into the air - thats just a physics fact.
This is true even if the candle is "organic" or "natural". Exactly what molecules are in that vapor would vary depending on what was used to create the scent. So in most cases it unknown what your bird will be breathing in. But if you are one of those people who constantly keeps scented candles burning I would be very concerned - especially about the birds developing respiratory allergic reactions. |

I dont burn candles all the time , maybe once a week or so. I do believe in using caution with my birds but also a good dose of common sense. I dont burn them in same room as the birds (even I dont like that much fragrance in the house). I usually only burn the candle long enough to just give the house a nice lite smell. So far this is what has worked for me. May not work for others or be something that they are comfortable with.

I like candles too but because of the threat that it poses to my parrots I do not burn them at all or own them. Not in another room or for a few minutes or anything. It is just not worth the risk involved just for something so simple that can be avoided. If you want to have a good smell in you house there safe things you can do.Eg boil orange peels.cinnamon sticks and so many other things that won't have a chance of harming your bird or parrots.

I know what you mean. I loved candles too (past tense) I ditched them for my birds health. I think of it as a trade off that I can get them more toys . I got rid of everything in my home that I read was even remotely toxic. I figure it will be better for me in the long run as well.

I used to sell candles....The company sells world wide now, and has the most fantasic of candle holders. They even state that there is not another wax that is as purified.
Even the most pure of waxes soy, beeswax, parafin... cloth wicks... all of that means nothing once the essential oils are added for scent. As those oils heat and evaporate bringing those wonderful scents to the air... even if it's a room away, your birds breath them in, and they stick to the sinuses and airways. Get a simmer pot and stick cinnamon, cloves, oranges and whatever else that is natural... for their safety. |

I have to agree with Sashagirl, Copper and KimM, I have gotten rid of all candles, its too easy to have an accident, then the regret..
