an AMAZING classified ad

I just found this ad in today's Philadelphia Inquirer.

MACAW Green & red.
Great talker hand tamed
w/ cage. [phone #].

Now, I'm far from being a macaw expert. Heck, I've only held one once in my life, though I've tried several times. And I must say that it was love at first bite. But it must be a rare bird indeed, as I've never heard of this elusive breed, hybrid, or whatever it may be.

But seriously now, it doesn't sound like this one has a very good home. I might be wrong, but the owner could at least get the species right. But if s/he doesn't even know that...
That's like me applying for a job by writing "white man with glasses" as my application.

yep, that is pretty pathetic, and I tend to agree that this person has NO clue, and shouldn't be owning this bird to begin with. Nothing irritates me more than folks who don't even know the SPECIES of bird they own..what's the point? I do hope that someone in the area who KNOWS what they are doing can take this bird off their hands and give it a REAL home.

How nice to have yet another reminder that people are IGNORANT!
I bet all they are feeding that green and red bird is those grey striped seeds too.

Aren't severe macaws green with red on them? This is what I first thought of when I read it. Still, they could have put a little more love in the ad!

might not even be a macaw.... I've met a few people that are THAT far off.... (heard a guy w/ a Military not know he had a macaw, nor a military, he thought it might be a conure???!!!!!!!!!) :eusa_wall :icon_eek:

More understandable with Cherry heads vs amazons vs whatever.... But a macaw is a macaw is a macaw; pretty unmistakable.

Perhaps it is a red-fronted. I have also heard of green wings being referred to as green and red macaws, it's not really wrong, just not common.

I responded to an ad in the paper once which said they had found a macaw. I just wanted to let them know that if they could not find the owner I would offer advice on care should they decide to keep the bird. When I asked about the colour they said he was green and gray. After some more questioning, I concluded they had a quaker and they told me they were going to keep the bird if the owner didn't call them, I don't know what happened in the end.
