You cant really tell with any animal after an acident if they will ever be the same again. You are lucky they are a young bird because that could help but your bird needs comfort and love right now. It is almost impossible to see if they will get over an accident because every idivual species, bird, or anything is different. Nobody can tell just from it being a macaw.

Well Heidi our Blue&Gold TALKS AND TALKS! She is turning seven months in a couple of weeks. Every week she seems to pick up on new words, we keep the t.v. on during the day and I spend a ton of time talking to her etc. I really think it depends on the bird, we have a friend who has a two year old B&G and he says maybe one or two words, his thing is crazy sounds, like a firetruck siren, he can sound like a lawn mower etc.

My BG is 2 years old. He only says "Hi", "Hello", "Romeo" (his name), and I've heard him say "Pretty Bird" once. He's got 2 or 3 phrases that he's mumbling but I can't figure it out what he's saying. I've only had him for a week now so I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to get them to say more. I've just been repeating words and phrases I'd like him to pick up in a gentle and soothing voice, and hoping he learns them.

Macaws are not known for being the best talkers, some will talk up a storm, others will only say a few words, Also they may have a lot to say just not with an audience. During the winter months When my Macaws have to be inside their cages are located directly under the heat duct to my bedroom and at about the same time everyday(usually between 3-4pm) if they are alone they sit and talk up a storm, I am not usually in my bedroom at this time(homework time) but one day I was sitting on my bed and I heard them saying words I had never heard before and they went on an on. I also noticed when we got the newest Macaw who talked really well, my oldest who will only say HI and Step up in front of people starting repeating everything she was saying and he is 13, so they will continue to pick up words their whole lives and thier personalities change over the years.

Our Blue & Gold is 11 months old, and she doesn't say a lot of words, but I believe is now starting to come out with some new ones. Her favorite is "help help" in macaw voice that she has, & "Don't bite". She also nips your arm & then says "Ow". The don't bite is either from us telling her not to, or us telling the dog. Our Grey talks up a storm & he usually will say "eh eh eh, no, don't bite"! They all have their own way.
