Your right, The birds get rinsed with the hose after being in the pool. if you can see this birds are well taken care of. Sorry if you don't feel the same.

Take it for what it is worth, but I felt the need to post the warning, being that someone else may do the same and have a sick bird and then say " well so and so did it withh no problems". People see those types of pictures, like birds with dogs and cats and think it is ok, and then something ends up happening and they come back and say why.

I don't want to seem rude for going offtopic, but what do people do at parrot club meetings? Do they bring their parrots with them?

Thank you, Our children are 22 and 16. We are expecting our first grandchild in Jan. After that the birds are definitely # 1. We involve them in all our life activities..

Does the pool chlorine bother them. I bought a nice big hose wand with a mister setting and I can set it up to mist them, but I have never taken them in a pool(I don't have one but neighbor does) because of the chlorine, I was afraid it would damage their feathers.

And to the comment about their colors, The more time ouside in the sun the more vibrant the colors become. Even my Military how is kind of plain compared to other macaws becomes almost irredecient in the sunlight.

We rinse the birds after being in the pool. These birds pampered spend most of the day in A/C. As we are in Florida. If this is what you have to go through to be on this site.. Maybe i'm in the wrong place...

I am sorry, I read saw your response about rinsing after I posted my question. I think it is great that your Macaws are outdoors and go in the pool. The reason I asked was I could never find any information on the effects of chlorine and as your stated your birds are obviously well taken care of and look very happy. I wanted to know if you had to do anything special to keep the chlorine from damaging their feathers, and was glad to see all that is needed is a good rinse. I would love to let my Macaws go for a swim and might try it now. I understand what you mean about the critisim of some people on this site and I understand that there are things that could make my Birds sick, and I take percautions but I do not go overboard. If I let all the what if's control my life, I would have to pull my daughter out of school everytime a notice comes home warning us of some contagious something or other. So I apologize if you felt I was questioning your judgement. I just wanted to know what to do to keep the chlorine from damaging thier feathers and giving a good rinse makes sense. I are very lucky to be in an area where your Birds can be outside most of the year. I know my Zazoo would love it, He eally hates the winter months and having to be cooped up inside.
